💙 Autism Conference & Expo Recap 💙

What a conference to remember! From expansive research on improving therapeutic interventions to the growing use of AI tools in home care and employment pathways, the experience was both inspiring and informative. Most importantly, it highlighted the joy that exists beyond a diagnosis and the importance of building strong, supportive communities.

Our Managing Director, Jenica Walcott, had an incredible time learning from researchers at the Marcus Autism Center, Emory University, and many dedicated professionals in the autism field. The insights gained will continue to shape and strengthen the work we do at W.I.G. Cares.

This was a powerful way to close out Autism Awareness Month. We look forward to expanding our research-informed programming and deepening partnerships within our community.

💙 W.I.G. Cares Dance Workshop Recap 💙

We at The W.I.G. Cares Foundation had the pleasure of hosting a dance workshop for students with special needs in celebration of Autism Awareness Month.

Professional dancer, director, and speaker Jenica Walcott opened the session by sharing the definition of autism and presenting research on the symbolism of the puzzle piece. The puzzle piece has historically been used to represent autism as a complex and multifaceted condition, though its meaning continues to evolve within the autism community (Autism Speaks, n.d.).

The highlight of the workshop was the dance experience—our students expressed pure joy as they learned and executed hip-hop choreography, explored rhythm, and embodied the theme of the day: “Growth.”

We are so proud of each participant and grateful to our community for making this experience meaningful. Stay tuned for our upcoming summer dance workshop for students with special needs!
