📚 FEBRUARY "BRAVE LOVE" ACTIVITY GUIDE
1. The Language of Liberty (Black History Month)
The Lesson: Dr. King spoke for everyone. Bravery means making sure everyone is heard. He once said Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.”
― Martin Luther King Jr., Strength to Love
Activity: Use the Bilingual Hardback book to compare words. Look at the word "Justice" (Justicia) and "Peace" (Paz). Have children write a "Brave Prayer" for their community using words from both languages.
2. Heart-Work (St. Valentine’s Day)
The Lesson: St. Valentine showed us that love requires courage.
"Secret Service" Hearts. Instead of traditional cards, have children create "Service Valentines" for community helpers (firefighters, librarians, or priests). On the back, write one way that person is "Brave like the Priest."
3. Leading with Integrity (Presidents’ Day)
The Lesson: Great leaders are "Brave Priests" in their own way—they serve the people and stand by their convictions.
Activity: "If I Were Leader..." Crown. Decorate a paper crown with words from the book (Faith, Courage, Love). Ask the child: "If you were the leader of your school or home, how would you use your 'Brave Heart' to help someone today?"
✨ PRO-TIP FOR PARENTS: Use the "Think, Say, Do" method from the book.
Think: What is the right thing to do? What would Jesus think?
Say: Speak up with kindness. What would Jesus say?
Do: Take action! What would Jesus do?
