June is PTS Awareness Month.

You will also see it called PTSD. We drop the "D," because it is a normal reaction to trauma, not a disorder.

Post-traumatic stress is what the mind carries home from things most people never have to see. For a lot of veterans it stays unspoken.

Healing happens in connection.
And in the company of people who understand without needing the words.

You are not alone, and there is no shame in the carrying. We see you. We stand with you.

What a day.

Yesterday 190 of us moved from the Virginia War Memorial to The Foundry at Tredegar.
Veterans, Gold Star families, kids on their first ruck, dogs setting the pace, teammates on foot and on wheels.

We stopped at stations along the route to remember the Post-9/11 generation and say their names. Then we did what this day is for: we kept moving, together.
Drew loved a hard thing done with good people. Yesterday was full of both.

Thank you to every participant, volunteer, sponsor, and partner who made the 3rd annual Legacy Ruck & Roll what it was. And to everyone who rucked from wherever you are: you are part of this team.

More moments from the day coming this week.

Two more days. One team.

Look at this crowd. Veterans, Gold Star families, neighbors, friends, kids, dogs. People who showed up because someone they loved served, and people who showed up because they believe in those who did.

Saturday, we do it again. From the Virginia War Memorial to The Foundry at Tredegar, we walk, ruck, and roll together to honor the Post-9/11 generation and remember those who never came home.

There's still a spot for you in this lineup.

One week out. And we’ve got a personal invitation for you.

In this one, Michael Rodriguez, President and CEO of the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation, shares why he’ll be on the start line with us June 6.

His words say it best: this event brings people together to honor our Post-9/11 service members, remember those who never came home, and support the families who carry that sacrifice forward. Whether you walk, ruck, or roll, it’s about community, reflection, and service.

Every registration and dollar raised supports both the Drew Ross Memorial Foundation and the GWOT Memorial Foundation, the team working to ensure the Post-9/11 generation is forever remembered on the National Mall. Their mission and ours move in the same direction.

Honor. Heal. Empower. Unite. Come do it with us.

"He loved hard, laughed loud, and treated our daughter Hailey like she was his own niece."

That's how Jenna describes Drew. He didn't have to wear Mickey ears in a tent halfway around the world to make Hailey feel loved on her birthday. But he did.

Hailey's favorite Bonus Uncle.

Every fallen service member was someone's Bonus Uncle or Aunt.
Someone's son or daughter.
Someone's best friend.

We ruck on June 6 for all of them. And for the families still carrying their stories forward.

June 6 is almost here and Sarah and Beth are ready.

The Legacy Ruck & Roll is our annual walk honoring the legacy and sacrifice of Post-9/11 service members, led in memory of CPT Drew Ross, a Green Beret and Virginia son killed in action in Afghanistan in 2018.

From the Virginia War Memorial to The Foundry at Tredegar, the route moves through reflection stations with guest speakers, a guided journey to honor those who served.

This isn't a fitness test. Wear what you'd walk a few miles in. Bring water. A weighted pack if you want the full ruck, but it's not required. Plenty of folks walk it light. Strollers, wheelchairs, and bikes all roll the same route.

That's it. No training plan, no gear list to stress over. Just show up.

Four men. One team. One day in November 2018 that their families have carried every day since.

Capt. Andrew "Drew" Ross. SFC Eric Emond. SSG Dylan Elchin. SGT Jason McClary.

Drew was a Green Beret who spent his life pulling more out of the people around him than they knew they had. Eric was on his seventh overseas tour, with more than two decades in the Marine Corps and the Army and a wife and three kids back home. Dylan and Jason, 25 and 24, were two young men from small towns in western Pennsylvania, on the same team the same day.

Memorial Day isn't for the rest of us. It's for them, and for everyone who didn't come home. So today we do the one thing that keeps them close: we say their names, and we say them out loud.

This is why we exist. To be the light where Drew can't be, and to stand with the families who live this every day.

Drew. Eric. Dylan. Jason.
