Vicky is a retired teacher, a 36-year career she recently had to give up after two strokes. Today she's a single mom caring for her 30-year-old daughter, who is active in Special Olympics, and her three young children.

After a friend mentioned our Mobile Pantry, Vicky came out to grab food for her family.

"With the finances I get, I'm a single parent with Social Security, this food makes sure they get the fruits and vegetables they need to nourish their bodies. It makes sure they have meals every day. It's a blessing."

Families like Vicky's are why we show up. Every Mobile Pantry helps neighbors put healthy food on the table.

Everyone who walks through a pantry door has a story we can’t see from the outside. Maybe a medical bill wiped out the grocery budget. Maybe a second job still isn’t enough to keep up with rising costs. Maybe a family is planning a birthday they weren’t sure they could afford.

Stories like these unfold every day across the 46 counties Second Harvest serves in Middle and West Tennessee. The things people own or the food they choose rarely tell the whole story. That’s why we and our Partners lead with understanding, so everyone who needs food can get it without feeling judged.

Happy World Food Day!

Food keeps our bodies going, and it also carries a lot of meaning. It’s how we connect around a table, how we show care for the people we love, and how communities come together when times get hard. It’s also a source of empowerment. When neighbors have reliable access to nutritious food, they can make real choices about their health, their work, and their future.

Another incredible Sunset Soirée has come and gone! We're so grateful to everyone who stopped by for connection, delicious food, and dancing! Thanks to you, we raised enough to provide just over 70,000 meals for our neighbors facing hunger across Middle and West Tennessee!

Huge thanks to Waymore's Nashville, Liba Spirits, DJ Avery J Sam Wiseman Photography, and Tajjon McDaniel for helping make this night so special. And special thanks to our sponsors; Tito's Handmade Vodka, and Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP! 💚

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with Conexión Américas!

Since 2020, we've been proud to partner with Conexion Americas to provide monthly food distributions, hot meals, and culturally relevant food boxes to Latino families and neighbors across Middle Tennessee.

But this partnership is about so much more than food. Conexión Américas helps build a welcoming community and creates opportunities where Latino families can belong, contribute and succeed.

The need is real: 1 in 6 Latino neighbors in Middle and West Tennessee face food insecurity. Partners like Conexión Américas are meeting that need with dignity, care, and cultural connection.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we're proud to partner with Conexión Américas in our mission to nourish and empower people so they can thrive.

This World Mental Health Day, we're recognizing that mental health and access to food go hand-in-hand.

Hunger takes a toll on the mind as well as the body, affecting stress, sleep, health, mood, and the ability to think clearly. And when someone is already facing a mental health challenge, keeping food on the table can get even harder.

At Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, we see it every day: when families have reliable access to food, stress eases, stability grows, and healthier, more hopeful lives become possible.

If you or someone you know needs reliable access to food, visit secondharvestmidtn.org/gethelp/ to find help near you. If you need immediate mental health support, call or text 988.

We're shining a spotlight on our Mobile Pantries, one of the ways we work with our Partners to fight hunger for children, families, and older adults in Middle and West Tennessee.

During our large-scale distributions, each Mobile Pantry provides our neighbors with several days' worth of groceries. This means a family is able to stock their kitchen, an older adult can focus on their health instead of food, and a child has the opportunity to head back to school with a full stomach and the energy to learn.

None of it happens without the people on the ground. Partners like Rural Hill Church of Christ and Celina United Methodist Church open their doors, organize volunteers, and show up for their neighbors so that families can get food close to home.

They're two of the 115 participating Partners that help us put on these large-scale distributions almost every weekend. Together, these churches, nonprofits, schools, and community organizations are the heart of our work.

Volunteers are needed in Smyrna!

We’ve added extra shifts at our Nacarato Distribution Center in Smyrna through the end of October, and we need neighbors ready to pitch in wherever help is needed most.

Shifts may include packing Disaster Relief boxes as we prepare for Hurricane Isaias, building other boxes for neighbors across Middle and West Tennessee, and keeping our daily work against food insecurity moving forward.

Sign up now at https://bit.ly/4je6las and help make sure our neighbors and those affected by the storm have the nourishment and support they need.
