Kaya Vyas was the 1st Place winner in the “Our City Through Your Eyes” Art Contest for the Grades K-3. Kaya stated, “Have you ever been to Smyrna Georgia? It’s not just any place it’s my home! When I was three years old I started gymnastics class at the community center. My family spent our days enjoying storytime at the library and picnics near the duck pond and jonquil flowers. Now that I’m eight, we eat dinner at the market village and throw penny’s in the fountain as the train drives by. Smyrna is a good place to live .”

Bonnie-Claire Schum was the 3rd Place winner in the “Our City Through Your Eyes” Art Contest for the Grades 4-5. Bonnie-Claire stated,”To me, Smyrna is a special place because of the cozy community and friendly people at local events. I also find architecture and nature interesting here in Smyrna. The inspiration for my artwork is based on Taylor-Brawner Park, which was a hospital. The park adds beauty to Smyrna. And last but not least , the Smyrna Museum holds our history on what made Smyrna today. I tried to include the train tracks because it was important during the Civil War.

Kadin Anucha was the 2nd Place winner in the “Our City Through Your Eyes” Art Contest for the Grades 4-5. Kadin stated, “ I chose the Concord Road Covered Bridge because I used to visit it with my family and thought it was fun and a little scary. When I researched it , I learned it was built in the mid- 1800’s and was connected to the Civil War. The original bridge was destroyed , but it was rebuilt in 1872. There are also spooky myths about candy appearing or disappearing. Learning this made me see the bridge in a new way , and now it is a place I will always a remember”.
