The Relay for Life is an all-night event that starts at 6pm at Greenbrook Park in Smithville TN. We will walk around the track in honor and memory of those that have battled, and are still battling, the big "C". The biggest parts of the night will tbe the Survivors Walk and the Luminaria Ceremony (dedicated to those that have lost the battle with cancer). We want you to understand that every singl

e step you take on that track at the park is getting us one step closer to finding a cure. Well here's just a small list:
- Funds research for a cure
- Provides wigs for women during chemotherapy treatments.
- Provides pap smears and mammograms in hopes of preventing women from developing this disease.
- Provides prosthesis for mastectomy patients.
- Gives patients a ride to treatments, when they are too sick to drive themselves.
- Gives patients and families a FREE place to stay during their difficult battle. This eliminates the stress of long trips to the hospitals, which then eliminates the worry about paying for a place to stay during treatments.
- Provides "Survivor Volunteers" to mentor and talk with patients that are currently battling breast cancer.
- Provides patients with makeup and what's called a "Look Good...Feel Better" class that teaches them about "making up" their new body, in order to make them feel better about themselves.
- Gives young cancer patients and surviors an opportunity to continue further education by providing scholarships.

I am beyond excited to announce that one of the speakers at the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life KY & TN Summit in Nashville, TN will be a researcher funded by the American Cancer Society.

Tae Kon Kim, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology, Department of Medicine, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
His research focuses on dissecting mechanisms of immune evasion and developing new therapeutic modalities for the treatment of leukemia. He has received research training under the mentorship of Dr. Lieping Chen, a pioneer in the field of immuno-oncology responsible for key discoveries involving PD-L1 and its interaction with PD-1 in cancer patients.

The American Cancer Society has invested $729,000 in his study of augmenting the anti-leukemic effect of macrophages in AML by PD-1H Blockade

Hearing him speak is just one of the amazing things at this year’s Relay For Life KY & TN Summit on March 16th in Nashville, TN.

We already have relayers from several events in TN registered as well as KY events such as : Warren, Christian, Pulaski, Marion/Washington registered and some from Rockcastle and Lincoln interested.
