❄️ Attention important information concerning our upcoming winter storm provided by Strawberry Volunteer Fire Department ❄️

Fire Chief, I want to make our community aware of the extreme cold weather conditions we are expected to endure over the coming days. Forecasted temperatures and wind chills may reach dangerous levels, posing serious risks to health and safety.

Extreme cold can be life-threatening, especially for our elderly residents, young children, and those with underlying medical conditions. I strongly encourage everyone to check on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone who may need assistance during this time. A simple phone call or visit can make a critical difference.

With colder temperatures, we also see an increased risk of house fires due to the use of supplemental heating sources. Please keep the following fire safety reminders in mind:

• Never leave candles unattended. Keep them away from curtains, bedding, and anything that can burn. Consider using battery-operated candles instead.
• Use space heaters only if they are in good working condition and equipped with an automatic shutoff. Keep heaters at least three feet away from furniture, bedding, and other combustible materials.
• Never use ovens, stovetops, grills, or propane heaters to heat your home. These methods pose serious fire and carbon monoxide risks.
• Ensure fireplaces are properly maintained, and always use a screen to prevent sparks from escaping.
• Make sure smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are working and have fresh batteries.
• Never run vehicles, generators, or fuel-powered equipment inside homes, garages, or near open windows.

Your safety is our top priority. Please take these precautions seriously and help look out for one another during this period of extreme cold. If you encounter an emergency, do not hesitate to call 911.

Stay warm, stay safe, and thank you for helping keep our community protected.

Sincerely,
Hunter Durham
Strawberry Fire Chief
