Stop by and visit us at our booth during this year’s Smithtown Festival Day on Main Street! Our members will be on hand throughout the day with plenty of activities and information for the whole family, including:

🇺🇸 SMITHTOWN MEMORIAL DAY PARADE IS A GO! 🇺🇸

Despite the rainy start to the morning, we are moving forward as scheduled and looking forward to honoring our nation’s fallen heroes with our community today.

🕛 Parade Step-Off: 12:00pm
📍 Start Location: Main Street & Singer Lane — former Fresh Market parking lot
📝 Registration opens at 11:00am
🎪 Registration tent located in the northeast corner of the Fresh Market parking lot

The parade will travel westbound down Main Street and conclude at Town Hall.

We’ll continue to monitor the weather closely, so please follow our social media pages for any updates as we get closer to step-off.

We hope to see the community out along the parade route as we come together to honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

🇺🇸 The Smithtown Memorial Day Parade is ON as scheduled and will step off at 12:00 PM on Monday, May 25th as we come together to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

At this time, we are closely monitoring the weather forecast leading up to parade time. Any updates or changes will be shared on the Smithtown Fire Department social media pages as we get closer to the start of the parade.

We appreciate everyone’s support and look forward to honoring our fallen heroes together as a community. 🇺🇸

As Memorial Day weekend begins, many families will be firing up the grill and enjoying time with friends and loved ones. Before you start cooking, take a few minutes to make sure your BBQ is clean and safe to use.

🔥Clean grease and fat buildup from the grill and trays before cooking
🔥Keep grills away from siding, decks, railings, and anything combustible
🔥Never leave a grill unattended while cooking
🔥Keep children and pets away from hot grills
🔥Check propane connections and hoses for leaks before use

If a grease fire starts:
⚠️DO NOT use water
⚠️Turn off the propane or fuel source if it is safe to do so and move the tank away from the fire
⚠️Stay calm and avoid panicking — unlike the wild-eyed person in that clearly AI-generated photo that definitely does not depict any specific person or Chief Officer, no matter what rumors you may hear
⚠️Use baking soda or a fire extinguisher to help smother the flames.

Most importantly, while we enjoy the unofficial start of summer, let us never forget the true meaning of Memorial Day — honoring and remembering the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. 🇺🇸

We also hope everyone is able to attend the annual Memorial Day Parade this Monday at 12pm on Main Street as our community comes together to remember and honor those who gave everything for our freedom.

This week, we proudly celebrate EMS Week and recognize the dedicated EMTs and Paramedics who answer the call every single day.

Whether it’s a medical emergency, accident, or someone simply needing help, our EMS providers are there 24/7 with compassion, professionalism, and commitment to serving our community. Their dedication does not go unnoticed, and we are incredibly grateful for all they do.

Today’s the day! 🚒🥫

Stop by the St. James Volunteer Fire Department Junior Firefighters Food Drive today from 10am–1pm at King Kullen in St. James and help support the Smithtown Food Pantry.

Please consider donating non-perishable food items to help local families in need and support these outstanding junior members giving back to the community. ❤️

On May 17th from 10:00am–1:00pm, the St James Fire Department Juniors will be collecting non‑perishable food items, gift cards, and cash donations at King Kullen. Every contribution supports the Smithtown Food Pantry and helps local families.

Together, we can make a difference.

Earlier this morning, Engine 4-2-4 had the honor of providing a very special ride to school for some lucky students at Mt Pleasant Elementary School. One lucky student, along with her sister, two friends, and mom, got to kick off Field Day in style with a fire truck ride straight to school! The crew made a door-to-door delivery, pulling right into the bus loop before the start of the school day. 🚒☀️

The “Fire Truck Ride to School” prize was a joint effort between the Smithtown Fire Department and the school’s PTA. The prize was raffled off during a recent school event alongside donations from several local businesses. Funds raised will help support student activities, special events, educational programs, and other initiatives the PTA provides for the students throughout the year.

This is truly a win-win situation when local community organizations come together to support one another and create memorable experiences for our kids.

There were MANY smiles on the faces of the students this morning — and plenty from the adults too, because let’s be honest… everyone loves a fire truck 😂

A special thank you to the Hauppauge Fire Department for the great idea! 🚒

Earlier this month at our Installation Dinner, the Smithtown Fire Department had the honor of celebrating our Senior Man, Honorary Chief Gerald “Jerry” Melvin, for an incredible 70 years of dedicated service to our department and community.
Chief Melvin joined the department in February of 1956, when the only firehouse in Smithtown was located on Bellemeade Avenue, and members rode on the sides and back of the trucks. As a probie, Jerry rode the Department’s now “antique” 1935 Mack ladder truck while it was still front-line apparatus, responding to countless calls throughout the community.
Now 89 years young and approaching his 90th birthday this September, Jerry remains an active and respected presence around the firehouse. Whether gathered in the kitchen sharing stories of legendary fires and historic events in Smithtown, recounting intricate details of the department’s past, or keeping alive the memories of members no longer with us, Chief Melvin continues to pass down generations of history, tradition, and pride to today’s firefighters.
Only a few short years ago, Jerry could still be found riding the rigs as part of the Fire Police Squad, helping wherever he could — often with his signature smoking pipe in hand. His presence in the firehouse continues to command the attention, admiration, and respect of everyone who walks through its doors.
Surrounded by family, friends, fellow department members, and honored guests, Chief Melvin received numerous standing ovations throughout the evening as he was recognized by Department and District representatives, along with many local elected officials.
We thank and congratulate Honorary Chief Gerald “Jerry” Melvin for his extraordinary 70 years of service, dedication, and commitment to preserving the proud history and legacy of the Smithtown Fire Department for generations to come.

Check out this amazing story from Northwell Health on Michael Bosi. Mike’s story of tragedy helped shape his future career path and desire to help save others.

When Mike’s not flying in the air saving lives as a flight nurse for Northwell, he’s running around Smithtown volunteering as a firefighter and medic. He doesn’t serve alone, though, as his lovely wife, Lauren Bosi, who is also a Northwell nurse, volunteers right alongside him as a member of our ambulance company here in Smithtown.

Late last year, Mike underwent open-heart surgery, which was a great success, and we’re happy to have him back riding the rigs with us. Since the surgery, the Bosi family has also welcomed another son, and we couldn’t be happier for them.

Thank you, Mike and Lauren, for your continued dedication to serving others both in and out of uniform.
