Strohm Foundation

Strohm Foundation Our mission is to rid the globe of the scourge of cancer.

The Strohm Foundation has a rich heritage as the successor organization of Three Strohm Sisters Family Foundation, a grassroots nonprofit founded in 1999 by three sisters, all of whom were afflicted with breast cancer. We are harnessing the power of the finest scientific minds in the world by building a cancer research network without frontiers. By funding cutting edge research at the world’s finest institutions we are helping to make a healthier, happier world for all.

In honor of the Strohm Foundation, a name unveiling and Wall Dedication Ceremony was held at Stony Brook’s Radiation Oncology Waiting Area. A special occasion was made even more memorable by the remarks of Dr. Raymond C. Bergan, Deborah Colgan, Danielle Holton, Dr. Samuel Ryu, and Dr. Alexander M. Stessin of Stony Brook Medicine. The attendance of research partners, Dr. Paolo Boffetta and Dr. Laura Hogan, as well as Radiation Oncology staff underscored the lives touched and saved by our joint efforts. Many thanks to our board members and supporters like SCPD Commissioner Kevin Catalina for being in attendance. Especially meaningful was the first public appearance of members of the next generation of Strohm family philanthropists as they begin to undertake duties to carry on the family legacy of service. Most of all, thank you to our friends and donors for making moments like this possible.

Congratulations to our own Robin Thibault on being granted the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers , by the Governor-General on behalf of His Majesty King Charles III, in recognition of his efforts on behalf of the Strohm Foundation. Robin was our first international honoree being awarded the Law Enforcement Ambassador Award in 2012, by our heritage organization. Since then, he has been steadfastly committed to our cross-border efforts to eradicate pediatric cancer and serves as a dedicated envoy for our cause. Well done, Robin!

When the statistic was released that 50,000 individuals were diagnosed with a cancer related to the September 11th attacks, we committed to raising $50,000 for 9/11 related cancer research at Stony Brook’s World Trade Center Health Program. So many public safety associations and organizations helped us reach that goal. We are grateful to all of them but especially grateful to the Suffolk County Police Department and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office as well as their marvelous hockey teams. This year is the twenty-fifth anniversary of the attacks. As more individuals continue to fall ill, this year we will take an even greater stance to ensure this life saving research is funded.
