Former Smithtown resident Bruce Friedman is responsible for more than 1/3 of the books banned in Florida - nearly 500 of them. Three years ago, he helped get Stacy Murphy and Karen Ricciardi get elected to Smithtown's Board of Education. Today, he proudly endorsed them again and Karen thanked him.

NO HOT HEADS ON OUR LIBRARY BOARD!!!!
During a past election, the Patch reported on alleged allegations of assault by Gavilla toward his then opponent Susan Berland. Allegedly, Gavilla was accused of charging at her after a meet and greet. We believe that our community deserves better than this kind of behavior. Berland went on to win that election and is now a Judge in Suffolk's 10th District.

On our library board, we need individuals who possess the right temperament and the willingness to listen to all opinions, even when they disagree or are criticized. Someone with a level head and the ability to handle differing perspectives is crucial for fostering a healthy and productive environment for everyone involved.

A hot-headed approach is not beneficial to anyone, and it certainly doesn't align with the values we hold dear. We need representatives who can lead with calmness, integrity, and respect for every member of our community.

That's why, tomorrow, on October 10th, we urge you to cast your vote for candidates who embody these qualities: VOTE FOR DEAL, BAKER-STINES, STABILE AND SARVIS.

Together, let's choose a leadership team that will truly listen, understand, and work for the betterment of our community and our beloved library.

A few years ago K*K recruitment flyers were distributed Hampton Bays. The New York Times and Newsday reported on this deeply troubling matter, and understandably, most of us were horrified to learn that the K*K was actively recruiting on Long Island.

However, it's disheartening to note that Library Trustee candidate Hector Gavilla seemed to have a different perspective on this issue. He didn't appear to have a problem with the fact that these hate-filled flyers were circulating in our neighborhood. Why? Because, according to him, it wasn't technically illegal and no crime had been committed.

But here's the thing - legality is not the only measure of what's right or wrong. We believe that we can't have someone so openly accepting of racism representing our community at the public library. Libraries are meant to be safe, inclusive spaces for everyone, and we need leaders who understand the importance of fostering unity and inclusivity.

Let's remember that our community thrives on diversity and tolerance, and we must stand up against any form of hatred or discrimination. Together, we can ensure that our public library remains a place of learning, understanding, and respect for all. 📚✨

Vote on Tuesday for Deal, Baker-Stines, Stabile and Sarvis. Keep the library an inclusive space for everyone!

During the recent Meet the Candidate night, Hector Gavilla, a failed former Suffolk Legislative candidate now running for Smithtown Library Trustee, made some troubling claims about the library. We want to set the record straight.

Mr. Gavilla repeatedly insisted that a book he considered "pornographic" was in the children's section of our library. However, it is crucial to clarify that this book has NEVER been in the children's section and has always been in the adult section. The Library confirmed this in a statement in August....of 2022! It's evident that Mr. Gavilla is spreading this misinformation intentionally.

Let's be clear about his motives: Mr. Gavilla's actions are driven by a concerning agenda. He is clearly anti-LGBTQ and seems to be using this false claim to upset parents and manipulate public opinion to win this election. We cannot let this kind of misinformation go unchallenged.

Smithtown Library should remain a place of inclusivity, diversity, and open-mindedness. It should not be subject to censorship based on personal beliefs. That's why we urge you to vote on October 10 for candidates who understand the true role of a Library Trustee and who won't stand for censorship.

Vote for candidates who support the principles of our public library – Deal, Stabile, Baker-Stines, and Sarvis for Library Trustees. Let's keep our library a welcoming and enriching space for all members of our community. 📖🤝

🌈 People who aren't homophobic don't keep tabs on the number of times gay people show up on their TV screens. Just saying. When you post something like this (on a hate group's page - seriously?), you're showing your true colors.

📢 Check this out: Smithtown Library trustee candidate JoAnn Lynch 👍 a post featuring a member of the Proud Boys! 😱 In case you didn't know, the leader of this hate group recently got a hefty 22-year sentence for their role in the January 6th events. 🚔 This certainly raises some eyebrows about JoAnn's views, doesn't it? 🤨

🚫 Let's keep extreme politics far, far away from our beloved public library! Last year, JoAnne Lynch unsuccessfully ran for Library Trustee. This year she's back looking to determine what's appropriate for your child to read in the children's section. (Her words, not ours). It's crucial to note that she has openly expressed views that concern some members of our community, particularly in regard to book selection and LGBTQ+ inclusivity at the Smithtown Library.

Let's stand together against censorship and uphold our right as parents to make decisions about the reading materials available to our children.

When you cast your vote on Tuesday, October 10th, consider supporting candidates Deal, Baker-Stines, Stabile, and Sarvis, who are committed to maintaining a diverse and inclusive library for all members of our community. Your vote matters in shaping the future of our library!

Perhaps more than any other parent, Vlad Pean has made it a point to be open minded and listen to those with opinions other than his own. Everyone knows this. This video clearly shows this. As this election turned nasty, Savoretti, Craine and Guttieri supporters - some of whom would applaud him at meetings - are twisting his words to paint him as divisive. It's unfair, not true and sadly, nothing but racist! We ask you to watch and see for yourself. We need unity once and for all. Vlad Pean has been saying this for YEARS!
