Nate Heltman, Site General Manager for GO Carwash, was the guest speaker at a recent Smithfield Kiwanis meeting. GO Carwash is a nationwide company with over 150 Carwashes in operation. Mr. Heltman manages the new GO Carwash near Publix on Carrollton Blvd. He gave an interesting overview of the Carwash industry and how his facility implemented changes that not only yielded clean cars, but was also very Eco friendly. As example, they have implemented water saving measures that use an average of 30 gallons of water per car while many traditional car washes use well over 100 gallons per car. He also discussed their business model and their approach to human resources. Our members had many questions and learned a great deal.

Smithfield Kiwanis, along with the support of many other organizations and volunteers its now in its second year of leading the IsleREAD program at Hardy Elementary School. Dr. Theo Cramer, Superintendent, Isle of Wight Country Schools recently attended a planning session with the group and presented them with an award. In presenting the Isle Lead award, Dr. Cramer stated that the IsleREAD program, under the leadership of the Smithfield Kiwanis Club, has made a tremendous impact on our young learners by providing invaluable one-on-one support to kindergarten students at Hardy Elementary School. Your dedication to helping at-risk students reach reading proficiency alongside their peers is truly commendable. The time, effort, and care that each trained volunteer invests in building relationships with students and fostering their love for reading do not go unnoticed. Because of your commitment, these children gain not only essential literacy skills but also confidence and encouragement that will serve them well beyond the classroom. Thank you for your unwavering support, your passion for education, and your belief in the power of reading to change lives. We deeply appreciate all that you do to lift up our students and strengthen our community.

Smithfield Kiwanis Club is proud to congratulate our volunteers who have made this program such a success. If you are interested in joining us, we meet on Thursdays at 12:30 at Smithfield Station. Enjoy fellowship and lunch and consider becoming part of an organization dedicated to serving the youth in our community.
