Last day for the 2026 Smithfield Maritime Rendezvous but the boats that came into town will be around for a bit near Smithfield Station. FERDINAND II helped move the MILDRED BELLE today as the tide came in to a little better spot, more water under her keel for a planned later outing. It takes planning and skill to get these boats in and out of the Pagan.
We found out today that Smithfield is the farthest that SIGSBEE has ever ventured from Maryland, and along the way they went past Cape Charles and poked her bow out into the Atlantic, circled around the deep water buoy for another first. Her crew and all of the Mariners from RAINBOW CHASER, FD CROCKETT, FERDINAND II, MILDRED BELLE and ST. JACQUES deserve a big round of applause for braving the heat and greeting thousands of visitors. Huzzah!

Time for the Smithfield Maritime Rendezvous! Your mission Saturday is to find our flagship ST. JACQUES, Capn Skipper and First Mate Clark and say Ahoy! ST. JACQUES was built in East Bay Florida and has sailed the waters of the Revolutionary War Gulf Campaign, where Bernardo de Gálvez was accompanied by a large combined force—Spanish army and navy, French allies, free Black troops, militia, and supporting ships, to drive the British out of Pensacola. ST. JACQUES can tell tales of searching for HMS MENTOR, reportedly burned in East Bay to avoid capture, or was she? Maybe she went back to privateering for the Patriots with her previous name AURORA? Come hear the sea stories of our local Patriot Privateers and the small boats that made the USA.

Ahoy! The Smithfield Maritime Rendezvous is this weekend June 12-14, with a variety of activities along the waterfront and downtown. The 1901 Skipjack SIGSBEE will be here along with Deltaville's 1924-built FD CROCKETT, the 1948-built MILDRED BELLE and the fastest deadrise workboat on the Bay, the wooden deadrise RAINBOW CHASER from Rescue. The boats will be open for free public tours during their three-day stay.
The Deltaville crew is also bringing their 15 foot Garvey and Audrey and Kent of the Historical Society plan to tuck their Penobscot 14 behind the 1750 1750 Isle of Wight Courthouse on Saturday, so swing by and share some stories about Isle of Wight County VA's maritime heritage.

Sea shanties Friday evening!

The First Assembly in VIrginia knew what was important back in 1619, they added a few amendments to the first batch of laws being read, this being the one that caught my eye. "If any person, without the leave of the owner, shall take boats, oars or canoes, he shall be tried for felony, if the value by 13 shillings or over, if less, the offense is petty larceny. If said property be taken from an Indian, the offender, if a freeholder, shall restore it, and forfeit £5, and if a servant, 40 shillings and be whipped."
Come learn more about boats, oars and canoes at the Visit Smithfield VA Maritime Rendezvous Jun 12-14, we'll be at the 1750 1750 Isle of Wight Courthouse on Saturday June 13 with a small boat and oars :)

Happy Birthday Windsor Castle Park! Dedicated May 22, 2010, designed by Lawrence Pitt, who spent part of the time crawling through brush to pick the best route for the trail that disturbed only one tree. Got a favorite photo to share?
