Not what you want to hear on a night around zero degrees out…a quiet furnace.

Fortunately we have a great neighbor who saw this light in the kitchen window and called me.

If you drive by the Grange please look to see if this light is on.
A light signals NO Heat.

I got here in time and lit the burners on the stove in the kitchen for some heat. Nothing frozen and nothing broken. We got lucky. Bob’s Cash Fuel is on their way. Expensive after hours but luckily we’ll get out of it with just a repair.
Keep an eye on that window and light through this miserably cold weather please. If you see the light call me at 207-313-7317 and leave a message if I don’t answer. Thanks, Rick.

Thanks all, especially Gary B. !

Here is a recap of our January Grange meeting for those who missed it.

Hi All. Your Fairview Grange members got together last evening for the monthly meeting.
We had 15 members present which was a great turnout for below zero temps and freshly cleared driveways of 12” or more a day prior. Hot coffee and fresh brownies on the counter. Our first meeting since the holidays and it was nice to get together again.
We quickly took care of our Grange business and we remain well financed and full of optimism for our Grange and our Community. Thankfully we have a steady income stream from our Grange rentals allowing us to keep moving forward. The bulk of time spent was on 2026 activities which include Skowhegan State Fair display, Hunter Safety Class August 12 and 22, Hunter’s Breakfast November 7th, April 11th Vintage Snowmobile Show, and a plan to celebrate our Nation’s 250th birthday with events held at our Grange and our Lakes in Town.
None of this happens of course without enthusiasm and commitment from our members and I thank those long time members who have seen the highs and lows and have hung in there as well as our new members who bring fresh perspectives and ideas all in support of our Grange and Community. Thank you All, Rick Watson, Master, Fairview Grange.

Great news for the Smithfield Food Pantry. Skowhegan Savings Bank just announced this.

Could not be more proud of Fairview Grange members than today when I delivered this pile of winter clothing and personal care items to the VA at Togus in Augusta. Biggest pile evah!
Overwhelming.
This is the type of good your local Grange is doing. Please consider joining us. We keep the flags flying on the poles throughout Town each summer. We support the Smithfield Food Cupboard every month and/or when need exceeds supply. We support our Lake Association’s because after all that’s a big part of why we live where we do. One of our favorite groups to support each year is our Veteran’s. Without their service and sacrifice our world would be far different. Thank you to all our Vet’s.
To make a contribution to any of our efforts send a check to Fairfield Grange p.o.box 22, Smithfield Me. 04978. To join or attend a meeting we meet the last Tuesday of the month at 6:30. All are welcome. Come for a meeting or two and see if we’re right for you. Thanks all, Rick Watson, Fairview Grange.

The lake picture’s are from Jodie. Used without permission but I think it will be alright. Our East, Little and Smith Pond neighbors no doubt have pictures and memories of their own but all of us are in Smithfield for similar loves of the Town and lakes. Enjoy.

Well, we had our Fairview Grange Christmas party tonight. Member’s were encouraged to wear something festive or worse and many obliged !
Plenty of great hot food, appetizer’s, and of course desserts! As is typical we made a dent in the food brought but had plenty to go around for all. We welcomed a new member, Val T. Speaking of membership we are now over 50 members!
We collected a mountain of clothing and personal care items for the Veteran’s at Togus VA. In addition to the items brought by members we added $140 to go even further buying items for the VA.
We conducted a little Grange business too. Rental income remains strong with many upcoming holiday rentals. They’ve enabled us to continue updating our Grange , paying the bills and to stay open this winter.
But wait there’s more! After socializing, eating, conducting Grange business, we moved on to become local experts in the game of Crokinole under the excellent training and guidance of member John A. who brought 3 of his boards to train us on. Fun!
In by 6:00 and home by 9:00 as everyone chipped in to do the duties involved with closing and cleaning up.
Enjoy the pictures. We had a great time.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all our Grange family, regards, Rick.

Can you help the Veteran’s this winter?

Your Fairview Grange each Christmas season collects items for the VA in Togus.

This year the needs are as follows: always need comfort items such as nail clippers, shampoo, body wash, deodorant, foot powder, polygrip, combs, brushes, disposable razors, shaving cream etc.

This year there is a high need for men’s and women’s NEW CLOTHING. Sweatshirts, sweatpants, socks, underwear, T-Shirts, winter boots, jackets, hats and gloves.NEW, BOTH MEN’S and WOMEN’S and ALL SIZES, especially large and up!

If you can help please bring the items to our FAIRVIEW GRANGE CHRISTMAS PARTY TUESDAY DECEMBER 16th, 6:00 on. You may also drop off at the Smithfield Town Office and we will pick up there. You can mail a donation to Fairview Grange p.o. 22, Smithfield Me. 04978. Please note VA donation.

Thank you all. Our Christmas Party is open to all and we’ll be sharing appetizer’s and learning how to play, Crockinole. What the heck is that?
Come join us and find out!
