Pennies for PAWS is accepting requests for agency assistance. Depending on available donations and funding, we may be able to help with:

🐾 Pet food, litter, bedding, crates, carriers and other supplies
🐾 Cleaning and sanitation products
🐾 Medical care that improves adoptability
🐾 Spay/neuter services and preventive care
🐾 Shelter improvements and enrichment initiatives
🐾 Special programs benefiting animals and the community

Requests are reviewed individually, and assistance is based on current inventory, available funding and organizational capacity.

This September, Pennies for PAWS helped 11 pets get the care and support they needed. That's $3,281 in support of our community— and we couldn't have done it without YOU. 💛

Half of September's applicants found us through an internet search, and 4 were referred by local organizations — proof that our community partnerships are making a difference.

Kazumy is a beloved pet whose owner noticed something terrifying: she was passing blood and pus, vomited with blood, had diarrhea, and was coughing with a rattling sound in her chest. A trip to York Veterinary Hospital confirmed the worst — Kazumy needed emergency surgery as soon as possible. 🐾

Our friends at Paws in Need made a generous pledge toward Kazumy's care and we were able to step in with an additional $300.

Pennies for PAWS exists for moments exactly like this — when a pet's life hangs in the balance and their family has nowhere else to turn.

🐾 Snowball needs our help. Her family does a lot to support members of our community in some of their darkest hours, so we are especially invested in her care.

Snowball has been struggling — she's lost her appetite, become lethargic, and is having trouble with her bladder. Her family noticed something was wrong and sought help, but despite a round of antibiotics, she's still declining. They just want her to be seen by a vet and get the care she deserves.

Snowball's family has reached out to Pennies for PAWS for financial assistance to cover the cost of a veterinary visit and whatever care she needs next.

We've pledged $200 to her care. We thank our donors for their continued support so we can give back to those who give so much to the Hampton Roads Community.

Goose is struggling. A growth on his gums has made it so painful to eat that he's barely been able to get by on scrambled eggs for the past three days. 💔 He needs surgery to remove the growth and get back to living his best life — but his family can't cover the cost alone.

The estimated cost of Goose's surgery is $1,500, and Pennies for PAWS is stepping in to help with $400.

Wolfie was recently diagnosed with diabetes, and her family is facing the very real challenge of affording the ongoing care she now needs to survive and thrive. Diabetic care for pets requires regular vet visits, insulin, and careful monitoring. For a family already stretched thin, the costs can feel impossible.

But Wolfie doesn't have to face this alone — and neither does her family. We pledged $300 to assist at this time thanks to our generous donors.

August was our biggest month yet — and it was all because of YOU. 💙

In August we paid $4,043 to veterinatry offices helping families in need. Pennies for Paws received 9 applications last month from families facing heartbreaking decisions about their pets' lives. On average, each case needed $617 in assistance.

These are families who love their pets but faced an impossible choice. Donors made the difference.

Juicy is a beloved cat whose family is facing one of the most frightening moments a pet owner can experience. She's been referred to a veterinary specialist for a biopsy to determine whether she has feline lymphoma — and whether the tissue is benign or malignant.

Her appointment is set for this Monday, and her family is desperately seeking help to cover the cost.

Thanks to generous donors, Pennies for PAWS has pledged $400.

Molly, a beloved pup, recently suffered a torn ACL and is in need of surgery to get back on her paws. Her family is doing everything they can, but the cost is more than they can manage alone.

What started as a suspected abscessed tooth turned into something far more serious — Scooby's vet now believes the growth in his mouth may be a sarcoma. He needs a biopsy, mouth X-rays, and possibly tooth extractions to give him the best quality of life and prevent further spread.

Scooby's family is doing everything they can, but the cost of this critical care is high — and they can't do it alone.
