We are SO excited to announce the first of our DIY event series that we’ll be hosting this year is a natural deodorant DIY! You’ll be making your own deodorant that you get to bring home with you. How many of you have tried composting? Composting is an AMAZING way to divert organic matter from going into the landfill. Did you know that a head of lettuce, that normally takes about 2 weeks to decompose, could take up to 25 YEARS to decompose if it’s thrown in a trash bag and is sent to the landfill? That’s why we compost! This is one of our sustainers’ compost bin in her backyard. Lydia and her family throws their veggie and fruit scraps, egg shells, and other organic matter into this bin and over time it turns into a healthy soil to use for growing vegetables and herbs in their backyard! 🥬🍅 Interested in starting a compost bin in your backyard? Have any of you ever tried growing your own avocados?! 🥑 We’re trying it out! Growing your own food is such a good way to not only avoid the chemicals and pesticides that are commonly used on produce that are sold in supermarkets, but it’s fun and it makes you truly appreciate your food and where it comes from.All you gotta do is clean off an avocado pit, stick about 3 or 4 toothpicks into the pit about halfway, and submerge it in water in a glass cup or bowl so that 1 inch of the pit is submerged 💧Make sure to check on it and add water as needed! (We’ve heard its better to keep the existing water in there and just add to it, instead of completely changing out the water.) Soon, it’ll start to sprout! 🌱Once it’s ready, you can transfer it to a potted planter. This is also something that you can try at school! Thinking of trying it out? Let us know and tag !
