Congrats Shawn and to Norfolk Fire-Rescue!
We are so grateful for our relationship we have with you and know you will do great things!

Huge congratulations to Master Firefighter/Paramedic Shawn Mehall on becoming Norfolk Fire Rescue’s first dedicated Peer Support Team Specialist.

For three years, he’s helped the Peer Support Team reduce stigma, provide confidential support, and strengthen resilience across NFR. In this new role, he’ll expand resources for members and their families and further support a healthier workforce.

Thank you, Shawn, for your dedication and service!

One of the most often asked questions we get, is whether our clinicians are familiar with first responders and what we experience.
ALL of our clinicians are either first responders or have a deep connection to one. They are all trained specifically to care for our community.

On this Veterans Day, we would like to extend special thanks to all the veterans who continue to serve our communities as first responders. Your dedication didn't stop when your military service ended - you've carried it forward in the most selfless way.
Thank you for your courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to keeping us safe!

Every day is mental health day for you at your peer support team. We have an abundance of resources, peers and clinicians available to nurture YOU. If you see someone struggling, reach out to them. Often they just need someone to listen. Take care of you and each other.

What a phenomenal human being! ❤️

If you've followed us long enough, you know we love to celebrate our members as they reach key milestones throughout their careers. New certifications, promotions, and certainly retirements are all worthy of fanfare and congratulations.

We couldn't let an opportunity slip us by to celebrate someone who has supported our membership since our inception. Vicki Taylor is the Director of our Prince William Public Safety Resilience Center. As a licensed clinical social worker, Vicki helped establish the resiliency structure that helps support the 2nd largest Fire and Rescue System in the Commonwealth.

Vicki's husband is a retired member of Local 2598 that hung up his boots after decades of service to the Prince William County Fire & Rescue System. 45 years ago Vicki joined that same system. As if helping firefighters wasn't enough, Vicki and her team also support all public safety agencies in Prince William including the Prince William County Police Department, the Prince William County Sheriff's Office, Prince William County 911 Communications, and the Prince William-Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center.

Vicki's commitment to the betterment of all public servants extends well beyond the borders managed by the Prince William County Government, Virginia. Vicki serves on the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and is co-author (and trainer) of "Stress First Aid for Firefighters and Emergency Medical Personnel" as well as "Stress First Aid for Law Enforcement Officers."

Congratulations on 45 years of service Vicki! You have saved and touched more lives than we can tally. For that, we are incredibly grateful.

Two of the most impactful things we teach in Stress Resiliency and Peer support are,
Just SHOW UP AND SHUT UP (listening) and be A GOOD HUMAN.
It isn't rocket science, y'all.
YOU can change someone's life with these 2 actions.

To say we are grateful for the participation and engagement we had in class today seems like an understatement!
We had a room FULL of FF/medics, law enforcement and dispatchers. Every single person participated, challenged us with thoughtful discussions and are walking away with tools to go make change!
Thank you for being a disruptor and helping change the future of mental wellness!!
