ATTENTION SMITH COUNTY RESIDENTS:

As you can see, more deconstruction has taken place at the fairgrounds in preparation for rebuilding the Hog/Sheep/Horse barns. WE NEED EVERYONE TO STAY OFF THE FAIRGROUNDS PROPERTY DURING THIS CONSTRUCTION PERIOD! Gates are closed, and panels are put up for a reason!

THE FAIR GROUNDS ARE CLOSED TO PUBLIC USAGE DURING THIS TIME. Please use the county-maintained road by the armory when accessing the ballparks and dumping grounds, NOT THE FAIRGROUND PATHS!

The Fair Board has a contract with the County, under which all maintenance of the fairgrounds is the Board's responsibility. We truly value every donor, supporter, and grant, and we aim to use the funds entrusted to us responsibly. Having to replace concrete because someone drives AROUND the CLOSED gate and OVER the slab is DISRESPECTFUL and a waste of our community-provided resources!

Over the last week, we have had at least FOUR instances where people have not heeded the closed gate, endangered themselves or property by driving where they shouldn't, and have caused unnecessary work for those working at the fairgrounds!

Please! DO NOT DRIVE ON ANY OF THE FAIRGROUND PROPERTY DURING THIS CONSTRUCTION TIME. Please help us continue to make the Smith County Fairgrounds the best around!

If you drive by the Smith County Fairgrounds, you'll notice more changes taking place. Due to the 2024 storm damage, the horse and hog barns need to be replaced. Deconstruction has started, and the new barns should be going up around May 1st.

A huge THANK YOU to all the grant awards received so far towards replacing these condemned structures to make the Smith County Fair safe for all those who attend and participate.

We still need funds to finalize the project details (specifically the electrical work). If you'd like to contribute, please send donations to Smith County Fair, PO Box 287, Smith Center, KS 66967, or scan the code at the top of our page.
(specific donors will be mentioned when the project is finished)

If you’re interested in helping with any of the activities, clean up, or helping during the county fair please let one of the board members know or contact the extension office. We are seeking volunteers that are willing to help out before and during the fair July 16-20, 2026.
