Another great day in the field conducting water sampling and acid mine drainage passive treatment system evaluations in the Mill Creek Watershed. Our partnership with Pennsylvania American Water, the Mill Creek Coalition, and the Jefferson County Conservation District aims to ensure the sustainability of more than 20 treatment systems in the watershed and prioritize future maintenance needs. This effort is made possible through funding provided by the American Water Charitable Foundation.

SRI will hold training sessions this December to teach about Datashed.org, which is our website that contains data and information on ~400 acid mine drainage (AMD) related projects across PA. There will be 3 separate sessions to teach about the different features on Datashed, how to search through the data/information, and how to upload your own project's data/information. These sessions are FREE and open to anyone interested. Please see the attached flyer for session topics and meeting times. Reach out to [email protected] to register.

We're not going to disclose this exact location, other than to say that it is in the middle of the watershed. After finding adult trout in two locations in a tributary watershed of Moshannon that was believed to be a dead stream, we suspect there is another trout stream in the watershed. When a stream is evaluated for resident populations of fish, multiple generations of fish, including 'young of the year' need to be found in order to confirm that fish are permanently residing in the stream.
