In celebration of the Lughnasagh, Sandy Wilson will lead a guided mindful walk at Pine Hollow Arboretum from 10 am – 12:30 pm on July 25. Lughnasagh is a festival to celebrate the first harvest, community, and gratitude. As the midpoint between summer and autumn, days will be starting to get shorter, and this is a good time for contemplation of what has come to fruition in your life and give gratitude for the blessings in your life. We will also acknowledge our hopes and fears for the upcoming months. Following the wheel of the year allows us to embrace the changes in nature, our society, and within ourselves.

During this group walk, you will have time for private communion with nature and an opportunity to express your experience with the group. Sandy will offer a series of mindfulness invitations that will help you focus your awareness on your senses. Tea and a treat will be served after a mindful sit spot, prior to leaving the forest. Pen and paper will be provided but feel free to bring a notebook and pen.

Sandy will guide our group to engage with nature in the present moment, as we experience it through all of our senses, to appreciate the complex wonders we often don’t notice when we are rushed or distracted. During this walk, we will be sauntering slowly on gently rolling forested trails.

What to expect & what to bring:
This event will include periods of slow walking, mostly on trails, as well as periods of standing and sitting in the woods. Please remember to dress in weather-appropriate layers. We walk slowly and take time to sit and linger on these walks. No experience necessary — beginners are very welcome. Please dress in layers as appropriate for the weather.

About the outing leader
Sandy Wilson is a certified Kripalu Mindfulness Outdoor Guide, an End of Life Doula, and Therapeutic Touch Practitioner, owner of Spirit of Dragonflies, LLC. She has led many mindful nature walks in several locations over the past several years.

This Saturday (7/18) at 10am is our popular Nature’s Crayon program with

🎨 Nature is filled with colors! In this hands-on program, participants will use the pigments and natural colors found in grasses, flowers, berries, rocks, mud, and other natural materials to create their own artworks. Come prepared to use your imagination—and to get your hands dirty!

Noah, our Intern from .esf has been researching away this Summer. Keep an eye out for an upcoming program that Noah will lead all about lichen! 👀

Noah has been conducting a survey on species present at the arboretum and performing an assessment of the biodiversity of lichen communities present.

✍️Want to learn to identify some of the trees of Pine Hollow? We’ll draw quick, messy sketches (no art ability required!) to make a simple tree ID guide that will unlock the mysteries of Pine Hollow’s evergreens.

We’d like to send a sincere THANK YOU to (Capital Region Builders Association of NY) for volunteering all the labor, design services & lumber to help us build a new mud kitchen and play deck for our Children’s Area.

Truly, we are floored by the generosity of CRBRA and all the effort they put into constructing this for us. We can’t wait to keep improving the Children’s area so our littlest ones can connect deeper with nature and explore the great outdoors. We couldn’t have made this progress with our 🔨🔩
