Then & Now: The 1867 Schleisingerville Depot

After the original Schleisingerville depot, built in 1855 for the La Crosse Railroad, was destroyed in an arson fire in January 1867, a new depot was constructed later that year.

The depot served the community until 1911, when a new Union Depot was built directly in front of it to serve both the Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway Co. and the Wisconsin Central Railroad, which began operating through Schleisingerville in 1886. The 1911 depot is now home to the Slinger Historical Society Museum.

Following the opening of the Union Depot, the 1867 depot was moved to 121 Storck St. and converted into a two-story residence. More than 150 years later, the former railroad depot remains standing as a reminder of Slinger's railroad heritage.
