We All Have A Destiny...A Burning Bush

In Exodus 3, the story of the burning bush, Moses is shown that he has a destiny. His destiny was to lead the Israelites out of Egypt and into the Promised Land.
But what about us, you and me? What is our call? Moses symbolizes you and me. He is one of those characters in the Bible that we can put ourselves in place of.
We are all God's children and like Moses, we ourselves will have a Most Divine Visit as well. It may not be a bush of an Illuminating Brilliance, but it could be more like the Quiet Whisper (1 Kings 19:12) that visited Elijah. But whatever form it takes, it will be a personal and Divine Connection. This "Flame" will give us our chance of a lifetime.
We may not know where we are going or how we are going to get there, but God does. There is a passage for each one of us. A road, a path, unchartered, that is only between us and God. Sometimes it is scary or uncomfortable to pass from one place to another, one condition to another, one stage to another. But God would not be asking us to travel it if it were not for our betterment.
Our first reaction may be full of excuses like Moses, "I am a stutterer, I do not speak well, send someone else." And like Moses, we may not be strong enough for the task at that very moment. But the beauty and the miracle is in our "yes" despite our lack at that moment.
Moses wasn't strong enough "at that moment," but as he said yes to it, he was given what he needed. Small fragments, pieces, portions at a time. He was given a splinter here and a scrap there. He GREW into the call. The substance, matter, people, materials, all showed up after the "yes."
If you carefully read verses 7-10, you will see how many times God says the word "I" speaking of Himself. "I have witnessed the affliction of my people,"... "I know what they are suffering,"... "I have come down,"... "I have noted their oppression,"... "I will rescue them."
But then, after all these I's, God says..."Come, now! I will send YOU." (Exodus 3:10)
So...in essence...It is US who He is sending but it is HIS strength and HIS might that will be doing all the work.
Therefore... let us not be afraid. Let us not make a decision by the "who" we are and "what" we think we have at this very moment. Because after our yes, we will see in time, that we will not be the same people. The true "who" of who we are will unfurl and develop over time.
Let us say "Yes" to this flame...this flame that burns for us alone.
The strength and might that God will give us a little bit at a time, will not consume us. That's why He gives it to us in fragments. If He were to fill us with what He needs us to have all at once, then it just might devour us. But our God is a gentle God, a loving Father. He will transform us, renovate us, and change us...gently. He is the Great Creator, the Great Potter. He knows what He is doing.

Family Promise of St Tammany is made up of 15 Churches of all denominations, one of which is our Church. We work with Family Promise Day Center where homeless families can be sheltered together in a program until they graduate out back to independent living. We are only program that keeps homeless families together while they cared for by different Churches throughout the community.

The Day Center is the main building during the day, where the family can store things, work with counselors in looking for work, or keeping going to work while saving up money for deposits and rent. Kids go to school and return there. They can do laundry and shower and bathe. Family Promise provides transportation for those without a car.

The Churches each host a week, four times a year to host the families. Family promise has a bus that brings the families to the Church where they are fed home cooked meals, and each family is given a room with beds in which to sleep. We try to make it look like home, and as comfortable as possible. We eat with the families and help with regular stuff, homework with the kids, some activities and conversation. Then they turn in for the night. The next morning the Bus comes and returns them to the Day center, so kids can head off to school and parents can work on what they need to do.

The families are able to save up money to get back on their feet in about 6 to 12 weeks. Mentors help them from there as needed.
