๐ŸŒž June Gardening in Zone 9B ๐ŸŒฑ

Whew, yโ€™allโ€ฆ summer is officially showing out! If youโ€™re gardening in Zone 9B, now is the time to work with the heat, not against it.

This month we planting:
๐ŸŒฟ Southern peas (black-eyed peas, purple hull peas)
๐ŸŒฟ Okra
๐ŸŒฟ Sweet potatoes
๐ŸŒฟ Malabar spinach (Heat โ˜€๏ธ Tolerant!)
๐ŸŒฟ Seminole pumpkins
๐ŸŒฟ Yardlong beans
๐ŸŒฟ Roselle (aka HIBISCUS)
๐ŸŒฟ Heat-loving herbs like basil and lemongrass

June is also a great time to mulch heavily, water deeply in the early morning, and give your soil some love. Healthy soil is what gets us through these hot Louisiana summers.

One thing Iโ€™ve learned from regenerative gardening is that nature is always teaching us. The heat isnโ€™t the enemy itโ€™s just a reminder to grow plants that belong in this season. Our ancestors knew how to work with the land, planting crops that could thrive through the hottest months while feeding their families and communities.

So donโ€™t put those gardening gloves away just because itโ€™s hot outside. Thereโ€™s still plenty growing season left, and every seed planted is an act of hope. ๐ŸŒป

Oh! And donโ€™t forget to come by the shop and grab some FREE SEEDS, PLANTS, RESOURCES, and MORE! ๐ŸŒฑ

What are yโ€™all planting this month? Drop it in the comments! ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿพ

At Cultivating Culture, we believe food connects us to our roots.

Leah Chase spent decades protecting and celebrating the culinary traditions that tell the story of Louisiana. Her legacy reminds us that growing food, cooking food, and sharing food are all acts of cultural preservation. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’š

We are so excited to be partnering with VitaVital Village Networkbring Greaux on the Geaux back to Boston! ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’š

This wonderful event is all about making sure everyone has access to fresh food and gardening resources right where they are, because food accessibility should be available to every community at all times. We canโ€™t wait to grow, connect, and continue this important work together! ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ…๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿฅ•๐Ÿฅ’๐Ÿฅœ

Join us for the end-of-year celebration of Playgroups, where families can experience independent play, talk to vendors about Early Childhood resources, and move to the music of Little Groove! Children can participate in a graduation ceremony and receive a certificate and photo op.

Something interesting I noticedโ€ฆ yesterday I started microgreens. Same soil.. Same lighting.. Same moisture.. Same tray with same drainage holes.. One has substantialy more sprouts than the otherโ€ฆ. Hmm.. ๐ŸŒฑ What do you think will be the difference? Why is there a difference?

Cultivating Culture was never just about gardening.
Itโ€™s about remembering. Reconnecting. Reclaiming.

Itโ€™s about the stories held in our soil, the wisdom passed through hands, and the understanding that when we heal the land, we heal ourselves too. ๐ŸŒฑ

Everything we do is rooted in co-collaboration with the earth, with each other, and with the generations that came before us. We donโ€™t believe in growing alone. We believe in community. In sharing knowledge. In building spaces where people feel seen, nourished, and connected.

These are the pillars that ground our work and guide our vision:

๐ŸŒฟ Regenerative Stewardship
๐Ÿ–ค Cultural Preservation
๐Ÿ“š Community Education
๐Ÿฅ• Food Sovereignty & Access
๐ŸŒฑ Healing Through Nature
๐Ÿค Equity & Collective Growth

At Cultivating Culture, we are cultivating more than food.
We are cultivating connection.
We are cultivating resilience.
We are Cultivating Culture.
