🌞 June Gardening in Zone 9B 🌱

Whew, y’all… summer is officially showing out! If you’re gardening in Zone 9B, now is the time to work with the heat, not against it.

This month we planting:
🌿 Southern peas (black-eyed peas, purple hull peas)
🌿 Okra
🌿 Sweet potatoes
🌿 Malabar spinach (Heat ☀️ Tolerant!)
🌿 Seminole pumpkins
🌿 Yardlong beans
🌿 Roselle (aka HIBISCUS)
🌿 Heat-loving herbs like basil and lemongrass

June is also a great time to mulch heavily, water deeply in the early morning, and give your soil some love. Healthy soil is what gets us through these hot Louisiana summers.

One thing I’ve learned from regenerative gardening is that nature is always teaching us. The heat isn’t the enemy it’s just a reminder to grow plants that belong in this season. Our ancestors knew how to work with the land, planting crops that could thrive through the hottest months while feeding their families and communities.

So don’t put those gardening gloves away just because it’s hot outside. There’s still plenty growing season left, and every seed planted is an act of hope. 🌻

We are so excited to be partnering with VitaVital Village Networkbring Greaux on the Geaux back to Boston! 🌱💚

This wonderful event is all about making sure everyone has access to fresh food and gardening resources right where they are, because food accessibility should be available to every community at all times. We can’t wait to grow, connect, and continue this important work together! 🍆🍅🥔🥕🥒🥜

Join us for the end-of-year celebration of Playgroups, where families can experience independent play, talk to vendors about Early Childhood resources, and move to the music of Little Groove! Children can participate in a graduation ceremony and receive a certificate and photo op.

Something interesting I noticed… yesterday I started microgreens. Same soil.. Same lighting.. Same moisture.. Same tray with same drainage holes.. One has substantialy more sprouts than the other…. Hmm.. 🌱 What do you think will be the difference? Why is there a difference?
