The Royal Boys Choir

The Royal Boys Choir The Royal Boys Choir consist of young men, ages 9-15, singing of change. We hope to spread the message of love and non violence all over the World.

The Royal Boys Choir was formed during the unfortunate closing of Miller McCoy Academy, an all boys public school that was on a mission to change the lives of urban young men. The Miller McCoy Boys Choir had just been formed and was being recognized all over the city. The choir was featured on WDSU News, WGNO News, and other broadcasting stations. Once the decision was made to close the schools do

ors, many wondered what would happen to the choir. Reginald Varnado Jr., the choir's director, decided to continue the choir under a new name. The Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church graciously opened their doors to The Royal Boys Choir. Now consisting of middle school age boys from around the city, the Royal Boys Choir will continue to spread its message to whomever will listen.

Royal Farewell
It is with a heavy heart that I announce that after 10 years of spreading a message of love and hope, The Royal Boys Choir has sung its last note. It has been an amazing journey that has shaped who I and the boys (now young men) are today. We had opportunities and experiences that many dream of. We touched many lives with our performances, and we gave many a new view of our young men. I am so thankful that God chose me to lead these young men. I learned and grew tremendously from my time working with them. I love them all and can’t wait to see what God has in store for their lives.

To everyone who has supported us throughout the years, I’m getting emotional while typing this, but from the bottom of my heart I thank you. Your encouragement is what kept us going. I love and appreciate you all! Please continue to pray for us as we now move on to our next assignments.

We recorded “Last Note” 7 years ago but it is a fitting finale.

God bless you all,
Reginald

The Royal Boys Choir had the opportunity to see The Forge Movie this week thanks to Carletta Graves, Sayonara P Williams, and one of our biggest supporters who wishes to remain anonymous. I can’t begin to tell you how grateful I am for this movie and how it has touched the hearts of my boys. Here is some of what the young men had to say after viewing the film:

The movie both inspired and challenged me. Isaiah had to let go of some things in order to gain a closer relationship with God. That’s something that’s a big challenge for me, and it pushed me to start thinking of what would be some things that could be holding me back from gaining a closer relationship with God.
- Lamar, 15

This movie really spoke to me because there was a relatability that was unmatched, especially the anger Isaiah had towards his father, and being raised by his mother. This movie taught me two big lessons. One being forgiveness is hard, but if you put it In God’s hands, he will take it from there. Two being the power of prayer (constantly having talks to God about your problems). This really rejuvenated me as a believer.
- Braeden, 17

The Forge, firstly, has one of the best messages I’ve ever gotten from anything! The movie convicted me to grow in faith, and to not only read my word more but use it as a “sword.”
- Andre, 17

The Forge inspired me to make the Bible a part of my life and not just a task to complete. Seeing all of the characters fully commit their lives to Christ made me re-evaluate myself and notice how much growing I have left to do.
- Tyree, 17

The movie had me reflect on my life and how God has changed me over the years. It inspired me to be more devoted to God and have him lead my life instead of me worrying how I’m going to live my life.
- Nashaun, 19

The Forge both inspired and challenged me. It inspired me because it shown me what godly men can do when they come together and have a good time in Christ. It challenged me as well because as I walk with Christ I want to cut off anything that may be in the way. The movie made me contemplate what more I need to fix in my day to day walk with the Lord. I’m glad I got to watch the movie with my brothers as we grow together.
