This morning, we continued one of our favorite 𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙠𝙨𝙜𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙙𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨. Our STPSO deputies, along with their own families who volunteered right beside them, hit the road to deliver Thanksgiving baskets to 56 families in need across St. Tammany. These baskets were packed with everything needed for a warm, comforting, and truly special Thanksgiving dinner.

This year’s route also included several families at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, where deputies made a special stop to bring a little light and support to those facing some of the hardest days of their lives.

None of this would be possible without the generosity of the St. Tammany Deputy Sheriff’s Association and Cash Savers Slidell on Pontchartrain, who provided all the food needed to make this tradition happen for so many.

Today was about community, compassion, and showing up…not just as deputies, but as neighbors.

🧡 Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at STPSO🦃.

Sergeant Bonnell was shot and killed during an undercover drug buy.

Sergeant Bonnell was working with a confidential informant and he picked up the suspect in order to purchase narcotics during operation checkerboard. The suspect advised they would have to go to New Orleans, (approximately 30 miles) in order to get the narcotics. The last thing the back up units heard Sergeant Bonnell say on his wire was "do we have enough gas to get to New Orleans?". Back up units at this time lost contact with Sergeant Bonnell. Some time later the confidential informant called the New Orleans Police to report a shooting.

As Sergeant Bonnell sat in the front seat with another suspect driving and the suspect in the rear passenger seat with the confidential informant, they arrived at a housing project in New Orleans East. The suspect exited the vehicle and without provocation shot Sergeant Bonnell in the back of the head killing him instantly. The suspect also shot the confidential informant, only wounding him, but he feigned death. The suspects then fled, but were apprehended by New Orleans Police a short time later. The suspect is currently serving life without benefits at Angola state prison. Sergeant Bonnell was survived by his wife and child.

Today Sheriff Randy Smith and the men and women of the STPSO, remember 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗔𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁 "𝗕𝗲𝗮𝘂" 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗿. 𝙴𝙽𝙳 𝙾𝙵 𝚆𝙰𝚃𝙲𝙷 𝙹𝚞𝚗𝚎 𝟷𝟹, 𝟸𝟶𝟶𝟽 #4106 🖤💙.

For a small guy... everyone knew he was in the room. He enjoyed a good prank, but would oftentimes dish it out more than he could take it. The guys on his shift say he was also a tad petty at times, and could hold a grudge...but who doesn't? He's been described as a "good cop" who loved tattoos, fishing, and race cars.

We remember this tragedy on top of a tragedy. On June 13, 2007, Sgt. Raimer and a passenger were in the funeral procession for Deputy Hilery A. Mayo Jr. The procession was moving through Covington when a violent storm knocked down numerous trees from Slidell to Covington. A large pine tree struck his patrol car on 21st Avenue, crushing the top of the vehicle and killing Sergeant Raimer instantly. The deputy riding with him, who was also his fiance, was taken to St. Tammany Parish Hospital, and was paralyzed from the chest down. 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐲 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐲𝐥𝐢𝐧 “𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐲” 𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐨 died from her njuries on 𝚂𝚎𝚙𝚝𝚎𝚖𝚋𝚎𝚛 𝟸𝟷, 𝟸𝟶𝟸𝟹.

We remember the chaos over the radio, the absolute disbelief....and hearing the words "he's gone." On that day...some of us continued on to Deputy Mayo's funeral (𝙞𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙜𝙤 𝙤𝙣.) Some of us continued on to the hospital while begging and praying for Sgt. Raimer and the injured.

Sergeant Raimer had served with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office for 10 years.

Let us all remember Sgt. Raimer for his dedicated service to the citizens of St. Tammany Parish 💙🖤.

Deputy Hilery Mayo was killed in an automobile accident on Louisiana 40 while he and another deputy responded to an emergency call.

The patrol car left the roadway, went into a ditch, and then struck a tree. Deputy Mayo was killed and the other deputy, who was riding in the passenger seat, was seriously injured. Both deputies were wearing their seat belts.
Deputy Mayo had served with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office since 1997.

Let us all remember Deputy First Class Hilery Alexander Mayo, Jr. for his dedicated service to the citizens of St. Tammany Parish 💙🖤.

Today Sheriff Randy Smith and the men and women of the STPSO remember 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗶𝘀 𝗛𝗲𝗻𝗿𝘆 𝗪𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝗜. 𝙴𝙽𝙳 𝙾𝙵 𝚆𝙰𝚃𝙲𝙷 𝙹𝚞𝚗𝚎 𝟹, 𝟷𝟿𝟽𝟾 💙🖤 Sergeant Wagner was survived by his wife and daughter. He was 25 years old.

Sergeant Louis Wagner was shot and killed by unknown assailants as he drove from the sheriff's office.

His body was found in front of a business near Covington. It is suspected the assailant hid in the rear of his pickup truck as it was parked at the sheriff's office and was attacked as he drove home.

While one felon was on death row for capital murder, he pleaded to second-degree murder for killing Sergeant Wagner with three other men in retaliation for an arrest Sergeant Wagner made. The felon received another life sentence for Sergeant Wagner's murder. He ultimately recanted the accusations against the other men, and they were never tried for his murder. Years later, another serial killer confessed to killing Sergeant Wagner, but authorities concluded he could not have committed the murder. Because of the other confession, the felon recanted his confession. He claimed his confession to the murder was because he believed he could escape from the St. Tammany Parish jail while awaiting sentencing. He was executed in 1984.

Let us all remember Sgt. Wagner for his dedicated service to the citizens of St. Tammany Parish 💙🖤.
