MVA is monitoring the FY27 National Defense Authorization Act as it moves through Congress.

Several provisions under consideration could affect service members, military families, retirees, and veterans — including military health care access, TRICARE, toxic exposure, traumatic brain injury, medical records, and DoD/VA coordination.

While the bill is not final, these issues are important to follow because decisions made today can shape the care, benefits, and support available to those who served.

Military.com has highlighted Johnson v. United States Congress, an important veterans benefits case now before the U.S. Supreme Court.

At issue is whether a veteran may bring a constitutional challenge in federal district court when federal law reduces VA disability payments to the 10% level solely because the veteran is incarcerated, even when the VA has recognized a much higher service-connected disability rating.

Military-Veterans Advocacy submitted an amicus brief in this case because the outcome could have significant implications for veterans’ access to the courts and the protection of earned benefits.

We will continue to follow this case closely as the Supreme Court considers the scope of judicial review and the rights of veterans seeking to challenge federal benefits laws.

Today, we recognize Juneteenth — Freedom Day.

As we honor this important day in American history, Military-Veterans Advocacy also recognizes the service, sacrifice, and legacy of Black Veterans who have served our nation with courage, strength, and distinction.

Their contributions are woven into the history of our military, our communities, and the freedoms we continue to protect. 🇺🇸

We are on our way to Alexandria!

Military-Veterans Advocacy is proud to share that our Executive Director, Commander John Wells, USN (Ret.), will be speaking at the VFW Department of Louisiana’s 96th Annual State Convention, taking place June 18–21, 2026.

John looks forward to connecting with veterans, VFW members, families, and community leaders from across Louisiana as we continue working to protect and advance the rights and benefits of those who served.

We are honored to be part of this important gathering and grateful for the continued partnership of organizations dedicated to serving our veteran community. 🇺🇸

🇺🇸 The countdown is almost over! Tomorrow, we proudly kick off our 95th Annual State Convention in Alexandria.

Over the next several days, VFW and Auxiliary members from across Louisiana will come together to celebrate our accomplishments, conduct the business of our organization, and recognize outstanding members, programs, and achievements.

We are especially honored to welcome VFW National Quartermaster General Marc Garduno and VFW Auxiliary Past National President Carla Martinez as our National Representatives for this year’s convention.

We look forward to a memorable week of camaraderie, leadership, and dedication to serving veterans, service members, and their families.

Safe travels to all attending, and we’ll see you in Alexandria!
