WECA FIELD DAY 2021 SATURDAY, JUNE 26TH-SUNDAY JUNE 27TH
Each year the Westchester Emergency Communications Association (WECA) participates in a national emergency preparedness drill known as Field Day. This year Field Day will be held on June 26 and 27, 2021. This event is a test of Amateur Radio Operators' ability to establish and sustain long distance radio communications over a two day period using emergency power and equipment. More than 2,500 locations throughout the U.S. participate in this exercise.
WECA is an association of over 200 Amateur Radio Operators, licensed by the FCC and dedicated to providing radio communications services to Westchester County through the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) program which is administered by the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services. We participate in this national communications exercise using a wide variety of radio and wireless equipment.
Amateur Radio operators (hams) have a long tradition of emergency preparedness. WECA has participated in Field Day activities continuously for over 50 years. Field Day is a picnic, a campout, practice for emergencies, an informal contest and most of all, fun!
We will be operating our base camp from the gazebo at Harbor Island 123 Mamaroneck Ave. Mamaroneck, NY 10543 from 2:00PM Saturday, June 26th until 2:00PM Sunday, June 27th.
During the Field Day activities, the public is encouraged to learn how to make contacts at the Get On The Air (GOTA) station.
It is also an opportunity to educate the public about amateur radio and it is a social event!
We hope that you will stop by!
