Well, for one thing, only MIT has an official model railroad club! We will correct that oversight this semester by creating your Tech Model Railroad Club at TTU. But first, we need your help to get this organization rolling. All students and faculty are welcome to join. Even the humblest hint of any fine arts, engineering, photography or modeling skills would be most appreciated! Yes, we have enou
gh railway projects going to keep Dr. Sheldon Cooper (of Big Bang Theory fame) busy forever. Where else can you and your friends share the joy of building things with your very own hands and ask: Why doesn't it work? On the other hand, nobody is required to do any work, but should enjoy running trains and encouraging their fellow rail-fans For full time students at TTU, this will be a dues free “create your own experience” club. If you would like to learn more about the Tech Model Railroad Club at TTU, we would love to share all the derails with you at [email protected] or 806 794-8911. The Tech Model Railroad Club’s railroad line is called the Slaton, Muleshoe & Pacific (SM&P). It is an imaginary layout based on the Santa Fe Railroad’s route between Slaton, Texas and Clovis, New Mexico. It is inspired by our Centralized Train Control (CTC) machine that controlled all the real trains from West Texas to New Mexico up until the 1950s. At one level we're a social club: we meet to see our railroad friends. However, we also have the opportunity to get involved in a lot of fine engineering and fine arts projects. We share a hope that we will create something that will become a permanent contribution to our community.
