Osceola County, joining Orange, tells residents to stay at home to help stop spread of coronavirus

Osceola County told its residents to stay at home starting Thursday, following a similar measure put in place by its Orange County neighbors to the north, county officials announced Wednesday.

The order is slated to start tomorrow evening and lasts two weeks to fall in line with Orange County’s guidelines. It allows residents to make essential medical appointments, go shopping for groceries, at pharmacies and other businesses deemed essential.

Within one 24-hour period, the two counties with a combined population of at least 1.7 million people will have ordered residents to stay home in hopes of slowing the spreading COVID-19.

“While we haven’t seen the number of cases as many other places have experienced, we know that it’s only a matter of time unless we take action," said Viviana Janer, the chairwoman of the Osceola County Commission. “Like our partners north of us in Orange County, we believe the stay at home order is the most effective means to combat the spread of the virus.”
