Quick thinking, local knowledge, and a rapid response made all the difference today. Our crew quickly tracked down and extinguished a railroad tie fire shortly after it ignited, preventing a small incident from becoming a much bigger problem. We're fortunate to have such dedicated responders watching over our community and ready to act at a moment's notice.

What a night at the Skull Valley Fire Station!

We want to take a moment to sincerely thank all of our friends, neighbors, and community members who came out and spent the evening with us. By our count, nearly 50 people stopped by, and the station was filled with something we don't get enough of these days—smiles, laughter, handshakes, stories, and good old-fashioned community fellowship.

In a world that seems to move faster every day, it's easy to lose touch with the people right down the road. Last night was a reminder of just how important it is to slow down, gather together, and reconnect with one another. Seeing life, conversation, and friendship filling the walls of our old fire station was truly something special.

In fact, it was such a success that we've decided we'd like to make these gatherings a regular event! Maybe next time we'll even add a little music and dancing. As long as we can continue receiving donations and community support, these events will remain free and open to everyone.

A huge thank you goes out to Megan Farrell, owner of the local Sara Lee bread route, for generously donating all of the buns. We would also like to thank everyone who brought side dishes, desserts, and homemade goodies to share. And if you missed Miss Carla Pool's homemade cake, well... let's just say you missed one of the highlights of the evening!

To those who made cash donations to help keep these community events going, please know how much we appreciate your support. Every contribution helps bring our community together.

Most importantly, we'd like to recognize our volunteer responders. These men and women spend countless hours training, responding to emergencies, maintaining equipment, and caring for the station—all to help keep our little town safe. Their dedication often goes unseen, but it never goes unappreciated. To each of them, we offer our deepest gratitude and respect.

We'll be announcing our next community gathering soon, and we hope to see even more smiling faces there.

Until then, thank you all for making Skull Valley such a special place to call home—and please remember to stay Firewise as we move into this dry fire season.

Stay safe, stay connected, and we'll see you soon!

Did you hear the chaos off Windmill tonight? Smell the smoke hanging in the air? See the orange glow lighting up the sky?

What looked like a single travel trailer fire had the potential to become something devastating for our entire community in a matter of minutes.

The call went out, and I headed straight to the scene. Before most people even knew what was happening, our engine was already en route—and on scene in less than 5 minutes of my arrival.

And when I say these men showed up ready to work... I mean READY.

Full bunker gear. SCBAs on. No hesitation. Within about 45 seconds of arriving, hose was deployed and water was hammering the flames. Pure professionalism. Controlled chaos. Training taking over exactly when it mattered most.

Within minutes, our brush truck rolled in for support, followed by the water tender securing backup water. Then came the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office deputies, stepping in and ready to help however needed.

This is exactly why Firewise communities matter.

Because tonight could have gone very differently.

Had residents not acted quickly... had this property not been prepared... had our fire team not responded with speed, skill, and precision... we may be telling a much darker story tonight.

Instead, we’re reminded exactly what community looks like.

Neighbors looking out for neighbors.
Firefighters charging toward danger without hesitation.
Law enforcement standing shoulder to shoulder in support.

Tonight, our little community won.

If you know the men and women who answered that call, give them the recognition they deserve. They didn’t just put out a fire tonight—they protected homes, families, and our community.

And if watching this kind of response sparks something in you—answer that call.

Volunteer fire departments survive because ordinary people choose to do extraordinary things. You don’t have to be a career firefighter to make a difference. Whether you want to fight fire, support operations, help behind the scenes, or simply serve your community, there’s a place for you.

Small communities like ours depend on volunteers. If you’ve ever thought about stepping up, now is the time. Send us a message—we’d love to talk.

Did you catch the smoke out on Iron Springs near the railroad tracks yesterday… or see our fire team rolling out lights on and ready to work?

What could have turned into something much worse was handled quickly thanks to the fast action and dedication of our incredible team, who responded to smoldering railroad ties and once again helped keep our community safe.

These folks drop what they’re doing and answer the call when our community needs them most. If you see them around town, give them a high five, a handshake, or a heartfelt thank you—they’ve absolutely earned it.

And if watching that kind of service makes you think, “I’d love to be part of something bigger,” we’d love to talk with you.

We’re actively looking for local volunteers and auxiliary members to join the team and help make a difference right here in our community.

Interested? Send us a PM and let’s talk!

Swift response and quick reaction time by your Skull Valley Fire Team this morning ensured a prompt extinguish of the small brush fire on Contreras Road, which had the potential to escalate rapidly. Thank you to our exceptional responders for achieving a zero-loss, zero-injury incident. This underscores the importance of volunteers, proper training, and adequate funding in ensuring our success and, more critically, your safety.
