It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of David Graham. David was a remarkable man whose generosity of spirit, unwavering dedication, and profound love for his late wife, Jean, have left an enduring mark on our community.
In 2011, David championed the creation of the Jean Graham Fund, established to honor Jean’s extraordinary life and her lifelong passion for learning. This permanently endowed fund was established through gifts made in memory of Jean, a retired teacher and founding director of the Skaneateles Education Foundation. The fund is used to provide grants to pursue learning experiences related to classroom enrichment and global studies, while also providing opportunities for personal growth and enrichment. The Graham family recognized how essential it is for educators to keep growing professionally and to have meaningful opportunities to bring realworld experiences back into their classrooms.
Over the past 14 years, the Jean Graham Fund (JGF) has allowed teachers to pursue sabbatical projects that broaden and deepen their curricular knowledge through international travel. When the pandemic made global travel difficult, David once again stepped forward with a thoughtful idea: the Summer Passport Grant program. These grants have allowed Skaneateles teachers to embark on short, domestic trips that offer immersive, experiential learning tied directly to the subject area they teach.
Today, the Jean Graham Endowment Fund stands as a permanent part of SEF—a lasting legacy that enriches the Skaneateles education community year after year. This legacy simply would not exist without David’s passion, vision, and steadfast dedication. Since 2012, he has served as an active and valued member of the JGF committee, guiding its mission with care and purpose.
We are profoundly grateful for David’s contributions to our education community. His impact will be felt for many years to come.
