Anti-Asian sentiments are in no way new. The community has been dealing with microaggressions, stereotypes, and discrimination for centuries, all of which have been recently exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Model Minority Myth is arguably the most significant of these stereotypes. We encourage you to educate yourself on this topic and check your internalized biases.
Skaneateles for Social Justice stands with the Asian community, and will continue to share resources in light of recent hate crimes and pandemic-related racism/xenophobia. Resources (further reading, petitions, places to donate, etc.) are available in our bio.

As we are a few days (2!) from concluding our Holiday Drive, we would like to share a little more information on where all your donations are going. Still haven’t had the chance to make a donation? The last slide lists all the amazing local business with drop-off locations, stop in and do some holiday shopping. Read through the slides the get to know a little more about the EFWA and the great work they do within the community. In addition to collection, we are also looking for people interested in sorting donations and no-contact food and toy delivery. Running year round (always seven days a week) the EFWA is always looking for volunteers. Please message us with any further questions!

Hello everyone! We hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving and are having a fun and safe holiday season so far! You may have noticed SFSJ has not been active over the past few weeks. We remain rather small, and as students, both high school and college, we are still learning to navigate running this group. We are always excited to welcome new members and support others in our community. This holiday season SFSJ is sponsoring a Neighborhood Christmas Drive. All donations received will support the Eastern Farm Workers Association (EFWA) in Syracuse. The EFWA’s membership includes farm and service workers in and around Skaneateles’ and central New York’s community. Everyone deserves to celebrate a happy holiday season, and SFSJ hopes to share Skaneateles’ special Christmas spirit with all those in our community this year. Please swipe through our post to read more details on what and how to donate. Some of our favorite downtown businesses will be running collection boxes and are excited to see you for some holiday shopping! We will be running collections until December 19th, we will also be accepting Venmo . Please do not hesitate to message us with any questions. Happy Holidays, SFSJ

EFWA will be hosting a collection table in front of White & White Antiques tomorrow, Sat 12/12 in the early afternoon. Stop by to learn more about the association or bring by your donations!

Once again, Skaneateles for Social Justice would like to thank all those who attended our march on June 14th and have shown us support thus far. There is a time and place for rallies and demonstrations, but as communicated by all our speakers, now is the time to support real reform and progress. Since the march, SFSJ has been working to create a 6-point plan to bring to the Skaneateles School Board, laid out in detail in the letter below. Today we share this letter with you; we urge you to read, sign, and share, for we must stand united in the fight against social injustice. Not only have we met and talked with community members (parents, alum, and current students), we have also had the chance to sit down with newly elected School Board Member, Gary Gerst, and the new Superintendent of Schools, Eric Knuth. Both meetings went exceptionally well, as they heard our concerns and offered us ideas and support. Skaneateles for Social Justice looks forward to working alongside the Skaneateles School Board and School District to implement the requests below. We want to reiterate that these requests are not a fix - they are a step in the right direction - please join us in leading the way. To access the links seen in the letter, please find the link in our bio, and select 'Requests to the School Board Resources' or access the documents directly using the links below -

Today, July 7th, is Economic Blackout Day. It is possible you have been following this movement since the 4th July. today we use our dollar, or rather not use it, to support the Black Community and encourage change. Although today is important, let it mark a change in the way you spend your dollar and support big business. Make a conscious effort to find local, black owned businesses to buy from as opposed to corporations with unjust practices.
