Kim's Hope is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on providing financial aid to families facing glioblastoma so the patient and caregiver are able to focus all their energy on treatment, care, and recovery. Mission Statement: Kim’s Hope will demonstrate the love of Christ by raising funds and distributing them directly to families facing a diagnosis of glioblastoma to allow for the best pos
sible care of the patient, and the best environment of care for the patient and caregiver. In their time of need, Kim’s Hope will help alleviate some of financial stress points so the patient and caregiver can focus their attention on treatment, care, and recovery. The programs and services we provide include:
* Financial aid to allow for in-home care: Kim’s Hope will provide financial aid to families who prefer to care for, or have professional care provided, in an in-home environment rather than a hospital. Especially as the patient progresses into end-of-life care, it is very difficult for the caregiver(s) to maintain a job and provide care or support for their loved one as a patient in this state. The grants provided by Kim’s Hope will ease some of that burden by covering some of the cost of unpaid leave from work or helping to fund professional in-home care while the primary caretaker is required to be at work if leave is not an available option.
* Financial aid for travel and lodging costs: Treatment for glioblastoma is highly specialized with an experienced care team having the potential to make a drastic difference in both the quality and quantity of life after diagnosis. Kim’s Hope will help to cover some of the travel costs for those that, because of geographic limitations and/or care being unavailable in their home market, are required to travel to receive the quality care that they desire and deserve from a center of excellence or educational institution focused on glioblastoma care and treatment. Travel costs to treatment, lodging for both the patient and caretaker, and costs of meals and other expenses while away from home are some examples of costs Kim’s Hope will help cover.
* Financial Aid for prescription medication/treatment costs: As GBM treatments continue to evolve and become more based on genetic markers and mutations of the patient-specific tumor, treatment is becoming more “experimental”, personalized, and expensive. Kim’s Hope will help cover some of the cost of prescription medications and treatment modalities that may not be covered by insurance but show promise in helping the specific patient.
* Annual educational grant for dependents of GBM patients: Because GBM presents in younger adults quite frequently, children of the patient are sometimes among the most affected. Kim’s Hope, beginning in 2023-2024 educational year, will award an educational grant to one child of GBM to continue their educational at an accredited institution of higher learning.
* Donations to research organizations: When the financial position of Kim’s Hope allows, and when approved by the Board of Directors, we will support organizations focused on the research and development of advancements in treatment modalities and potential cures for glioblastoma specifically and brain tumors in general.
