SYC Iowa

SYC Iowa We strive to change the lives of disabled & terminally ill youth through God's great outdoors.

Special Youth Challenge (SYC) of Iowa is a 501C3 nonprofit Christian based ministry designed to teach and assist youth with special challenges to participate in and enjoy shooting sports in God's great outdoors. SYC provides training and other necessary aides to help the hunters achieve this goal at no cost to them. There are three events held each year; a turkey hunt in the spring, a deer hunt in September and a fundraiser in November.

Chaplain's Corner--As I was thinking of the events of the resurrection of Jesus, I thought about the angel rolling the stone away from the mouth of the cave where Jesus had been placed. We’ve all seen images of the door to the tomb standing open and light shining out, like Jesus was just waiting inside for someone to open the door. Did the angel roll the stone away to let Jesus out like when they rolled stone away to let Lazarus out of his tomb? If Jesus could “walk through the walls” where the disciples were meeting with locked doors (John 20:19), I don’t think He needed any help escaping His tomb. The angel simply rolled the stone away so the women and the disciples could see that He was no longer there. “Jesus had left the building.” The cross was empty. The tomb was empty. He would never need to be sacrificed again ("…for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself" — Hebrews 7:27).

"Knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all…" (Romans 6:9-10).

He is risen, and so will we be if we trust solely in Christ ("For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection" Romans 6:5)

HE IS RISEN INDEED!!
Thank you Jesus!!

Chaplain’s Corner — When I was a kid, oh so long ago, when we received a gift for Christmas, we always told the one who gave it to us, “Thank you.” This Christmas, let’s be sure we don’t get so caught up in all the good things that come with Christmas that we overlook the best gift the world has ever seen. God gave the world His Son (John 3:16). Let’s remember to say, “Thank you.” And while we’re at it, let’s thank Jesus for the greatest gift we’ve personally received: Salvation-Eternal Life. This Christmas we truly give thanks for the indescribable gift of God’s Son and the gift of salvation that He provided once He got here. Have a safe, Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year.

Chaplain's Corner - The first true thanksgiving was in 1623, when the Pilgrims gave thanks for rain that ended a drought. Thanksgiving came to be a time of giving thanks for the harvest, a celebration held in many other parts of the world. But these early Thanksgivings in the US took the form of a special church service, rather than a feast.

I often wonder to whom, or to what most people give thanks, even in our country. Obviously the Pilgrims gave thanks to the true God of heaven whom they rightly deduced controlled the weather. Hebrews 1:3 says that Jesus sustains “all things by His powerful word.”

So we are thankful for all the blessings we have because Jesus is "sustaining all things. But Paul really nailed it in 2 Corinthians 9:15 when he said, “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” So, this Thanksgiving, let us be truly thankful for the gift of eternal life, then we can say with Paul — “And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful (Colossians 3:15).

Chaplain's Corner - We should always remember to thank God for our country and our freedom and to pray for our leaders (1 Timothy 2:1-2). But as Veterans Day approaches, let’s take some time to really think about what we owe this country’s Veterans. Everyone who raised their hand, took the oath and put on the uniform deserves our respect. Our Veterans fought, bled, and many died to protect our flag, our country and our way of life. Take some intentional time this Veterans Day season to thank a Veteran. Both of you will feel a lot better.
