The bugs are back, but so are we! The City of Sioux Falls Mosquito Control field staff have had a busy first month getting larvicide treatments into breeding grounds around the city!

You’ll see us covering drainageways and cattail marshes across The City, but keeping the mosquitoes away is a team effort, and we need your help to keep our community safe.

Standing water is a perfect breeding ground that attracts mosquitoes. Be sure to check your property for planters, buckets, pools, or kid’s toys and dump out any standing water to avoid drawing in adult mosquitoes that lay eggs.

You can also larvicide just like us! BTI products are great to eliminate mosquito larva from standing water areas on your property. Remember to read the label and reapply to keep those pesky biters from hatching!

With rain comes mosquitoes: Standing water is a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes. Be sure to check outside your properties for planters, buckets, pools, or kids toys and dump out any standing water. Removing these water sources can prevent mosquitoes from spoiling your Fourth of July celebration!

Weather permitting, the City of Sioux Falls Mosquito Control program will be working its way through the city spray zones starting tonight (Thursday, June 26) and continuing Monday through Wednesday, July 3. Spray trucks begin spraying at 8:30 p.m. until about 1:30 a.m.

The City of Sioux Falls Mosquito Control Program limits the number of harmful mosquitoes that spread viruses like West Nile. Efforts typically ramp up in early June and wrap up by October when the weather turns colder.
