Powerful message from cellist Sharon Mautner-Rogers, who is playing on the cello by Alfred Stelzner in the concert:

"Music is a Universal language, and it's powerful to connect with people from any background and walk of life. It brings people together. ... Like we all have one heartbeat."

We true hope to bring hope and light to everyone with our music and instruments tonight.

Our fantastic students got to choose their own instruments! It was such a beautiful process. They have been spending time with the instruments for a couple of days and are ready to share the voice of the instruments with you all tomorrow at the concert!

We are extremely grateful for Minnesota JCC and Violins of Hope for this incredible opportunity to let our students make music with those instruments that are full of stories and have traveled around the world.

Dr. Ioana Galu was trying to feel which one of the 3 violins was “the one”. Do you know which one she ended up choosing?

If you still can’t tell which instrument had the best chemistry with her from the video, come to the concert this Saturday at 7 pm at Augustana University SD School of Music to find out!

Our cellist Sharon Mautner-Rodgers received the cello from Minnesota JCC. Check out the beautiful sound and image of the cello. Sharon: "There is an organization called 'Violins of Hope' , which owns stringed instruments that were rescued from the Holocaust, and are sometimes loaned out to musicians. I am experiencing a once in a lifetime opportunity ~ to get to perform on one of the very few cellos that was rescued. There are no words to express the emotion I've felt, being able to play on it for the last couple of hours. Many of you know that I had about a dozen relatives perish in the concentration camps, so this upcoming concert will be extra meaningful for me.

The cello was made in 1893 by Alfred Stelzner."
