We are so grateful for the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation and their confidence in Foster605 as we prepare to launch CarePortal across Minnehaha and Lincoln Counties. Their investment is helping build stronger connections between community partners, child welfare professionals, churches and families in crisis so that children and caregivers receive practical support when it matters most.

Hope is not accidental. Hope is built together.

The Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation has awarded more than $72,000 for local nonprofits and causes through the latest round of Community Fund grants.

"So many local nonprofits are doing excellent work, and we're excited to help fund them," said Patrick Gale, of the Community Foundation. "Our donors trust us and our grants committee to support vital services that serve our community."

In fiscal year 2026, the Community Foundation has awarded more than $750,000 through the Community Fund Endowment and other unrestricted funds as part of our competitive grantmaking program.

Winner winner… Mickey dinner.

A Mickey-themed birthday celebration was just delivered to a special young child in Winner. From decorations and gifts to sweet treats and intentional details, we are grateful for the opportunity to remind this child that they are seen, valued, and worth celebrating.

One of the things we love most about this work is how it allows us to connect with so many wonderful communities across our amazing state. It is a privilege to serve children and families in places like Winner and to help create meaningful moments of joy, celebration, and belonging.

Thank you to the amazing volunteers, donors, and community partners who continue making birthdays like this possible for children in foster care across South Dakota. Every birthday matters. Every child matters.

We are so grateful to Dakota News Now for taking the time to share the heart behind Candles and Cake during National Foster Care Month.

It is hard to believe that since Jenn sat down for this interview, we have already celebrated 16 more birthdays for children in foster care across South Dakota and about 30 more scheduled.

Every cake, every candle, every gift, every decoration, and every delivery represents something bigger than a birthday party. It is a reminder to a child that they are seen, valued, loved, and worth celebrating.

What makes this so beautiful is that this is not just Foster605. This is bakers, volunteers, donors, churches, businesses, and community members coming together to build hope together for children who deserve to know they matter.

We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to share this story and for everyone who continues to help make these celebrations possible.

Kids in foster care are getting a birthday they’ll never forget thanks to a local non-profit and a whole lot of community help.

Today we remember the lives, courage, and sacrifice of the men and women who gave everything for our country. May we honor them not only with words, but with gratitude, humility, and a commitment to serve others well. We remember. We honor. We will not forget. 🇺🇸

In 2025 in South Dakota, 85 teens were discharged from foster care as they reached legal adulthood (Statistics Source: SD Department of Social Services, FY2025).

These numbers point to something deeper than a transition at 18, they highlight the urgent need for stability and permanency well before a teen ages out of care.

Teens in foster care need consistent, committed foster families who can walk with them through the hard, everyday moments of growing up, teaching life skills, offering encouragement, and providing the kind of steady support that prepares them for adulthood.

Finding permanency for teens whose parental rights have been legally terminated becomes even more critical. Every teen deserves the chance to step into adulthood already anchored by relationship, stability, and belonging, not stepping out alone to find it.

The goal is reaching 18 already supported, already seen, and already home in some way that lasts.

On Thursday evening, The Foster Network and Foster605 came together to host the 1st Annual Schools Out Blowout at Sertoma Park as a way to celebrate the end of another school year and honor the incredible foster families throughout our community.

What a beautiful evening it was.

The park was filled with laughter, conversations, new friendships, and meaningful moments of connection. Foster families had the opportunity to relax, enjoy time together, and connect with organizations and community partners who care about walking alongside them throughout their journey.

We are incredibly grateful for every organization that showed up to serve, encourage, and provide valuable resources for families. A special thank you as well to Officer Babbage of the Sioux Falls Police Department for joining us and helping create so many smiles throughout the evening. The stickers were definitely a highlight for the kids… and for quite a few adults too.

A huge thank you as well to our amazing sponsors and partners who helped make the night possible. Your generosity and support helped create an evening where foster families felt seen, valued, encouraged, and celebrated.

Events like this remind us that hope is built through relationships, collaboration, and community. We are grateful for the growing network of people and organizations who continue to show up for children and families in meaningful ways.

We are excited for the continued collaboration and for the many beautiful connections that were made throughout the night.

This week we had an incredible group from the Keller Williams Sioux Falls office volunteer with us alongside several other organizations at our office. Because of their hard work, we were able to move and organize our Candles and Cake toys, freeing up space for birthday staging and even opening one of our office spaces for future growth.

We are so grateful for this amazing group and the willingness they showed in helping us accomplish such an important task. Moments like this remind us how much can happen when people come together to serve children and families well.

We are grateful for God’s faithfulness and look forward with anticipation to seeing how He continues to stretch and grow this mission in the months ahead.
