📢 New Path to CPA Approved!

The SDCPAS-backed legislation expanding CPA licensure pathways was signed into law by Governor Rhoden on March 2nd. House Bill 1035, which passed by unanimous vote in both chambers, introduces an additional pathway to licensure in South Dakota. We extend our appreciation to Representative Mike Weisgram for serving as the prime sponsor of this important legislation.

A third licensure pathway for CPA candidates in South Dakota will take effect July 1, 2026.

Advocacy in Action!
Last week, the SDCPAS delegation had the privilege of meeting with Senator Thune, Senator Rounds, and Representative Johnson during the AICPA Spring Council Hill Visits. Key topics of discussion included the recognition of accounting as a STEM profession, the proposed Pass-Through Entity Tax in the current House bill, and the importance of sound tax policy.

The South Dakota CPA Society held its first CPA Showcase event at the South Dakota State University Ness School of Management and Economics on October 16th. In conjunction with our showcase, SDSU also hosted a networking reception celebrating the approval of their new major in accounting. This celebration not only recognized the achievement but also fostered excitement among the students and faculty about the future of accounting education at the university. It was a great turnout of students who came to ask questions and learn more about the accounting profession and get real-world insight & knowledge from local experts working in the field. The South Dakota CPA Society held its annual CPA Showcase event at the University of South Dakota Beacom School of Business on September 4th. It was a great turnout of over 120+ students who came to learn more about the accounting profession and get real-world insight & knowledge from local experts working in the field.
