Please join the South Dakota Section virtually on Thursday, May 21st at 12:00PM CDT to hear how MnDOT has been advancing in the digital delivery realm. Laura Carlson, MnDOT District 2 Design Engineer, will present on District 2's goal of reducing plan sheets to a minimum and producing contractual digital models.

The project consists of constructing a skewed, triple-barrel box culvert (1-14'x14', 2-12'x12') on MN Highway 92 in Northwest Minnesota. The project was let on April 22nd, with the pdf plans consisting of 13 sheets along with 6 box culvert sheets. MnDOT provided .dgn files, which were certified, for contractors to use while putting the bid together. There were no regular construction plans provided, other than the title sheet, typical section and tables of standard plates and plans.

South Dakota School of Mines is hosting this year’s Rocky Mountain Student Symposium April 23-25! Thirteen school, hundreds of students, 50+ volunteers, and generous sponsors.

Along with the competitions, the South Dakota Section is excited to host a coffee at 10am on Friday at The Monument in Rapid City with President Marsha Anderson Bomar and Governor Aaron Leopold.

The group will take a walking tour to see:
✔️Concrete Canoes 🛶 on display
✔️Steel Bridges 🌉being assembled and loaded
✔️Timber Strong 👷
✔️Sustainable Solutions ♻️ posters (this year’s topic was ).

Students are gearing up and putting the final touches on their presentations and competition pieces for the upcoming Symposia!

Join us as they present their work in preparation for the competitions:

West River - SD Mines: On Tuesday, March 31, 2026 from 11am to 1pm (Mountain Time), we have the BHB/SDES Luncheon at the Pearson Alumni Center PAC Ballroom. Food will be available at 11am while presentations will start at 11:30am. You can also suppport the team monitarily - From 4pm to 8pm, for a Pancheros Fundraiser. Note - SD Mines will be hosting this year's Rocky Mountain Symposium March 23-25 on campus, at The Monument, and Canoe Races will be held out in Hot Springs on Saturday, weather pending.

The teams presenting are: Concrete Canoe, Non-Technical Paper, Surveying, Sustainable Solutions, and Technical Paper
