Established in 1872, we are the first church in Sioux Falls, SD and still the heart of the city. We are called to be a sacred circle of love, prayer and service gathered around the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. We welcom

e you to Calvary and invite all baptized Christians to join us in Holy Communion. Our service times:
8:00 am – Rite I "Said" Eucharist: This is a spoken celebration of the Holy Eucharist according to the Book of Common Prayer using the more traditional language of Rite I. Most Sundays there is no music at this service which typically concludes by 8:45 am and is followed by a time of fellowship and refreshments in the Lewis Commons.

10:00 am – Rite II Choral Eucharist: This is a choral celebration of the Holy Eucharist according to the Book of Common Prayer using the contemporary¹ language of Rite II. Most Sundays this service is partially sung including three or four congregational hymns and one or two choir anthems. The choir goes on hiatus from Memorial Day to Labor Day every summer.

11:30 – Tiospaye Wakan: This is a Eucharist service set in the Lakota culture. See this article for more information about this worshiping community. There are Anglican churches which are known in the United States and Scotland as “Episcopal” meaning “with bishops”. The term “Anglican” refers to our common origin in Christian missions launched from the British Isles. As part of this Anglican Communion, the Episcopal Church in the United States is linked to 77 million Christians, organized into 37 provincial churches worldwide. The Episcopal Church strives to offer a moderate and inclusive approach to faith. While the church presents clear, biblically-based teaching and guidance on most subjects, we also understand there are some issues in life that can be experienced and interpreted in different ways by different people. We encourage respectful listening, dialogue rather than debate, and “unity in diversity” among our members as we seek to live faithful and fruitful lives. The Episcopal Church uses many terms which may be unfamiliar to many of you and our services are steeped in tradition. General information about the Episcopal Church terminology and our services can be found on the national web-site, www.episcopalchurch.org. Here are some other web-sites to explore as well! The Teddy Bear Den is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a fundraiser tomorrow night at JJ's Wine & Spirits! Tickets are still available for Beer, Bourbon, & Beef. The Teddy Bear Den encourages pregnant women in the Sioux Falls community to get early and regular prenatal care. Their program is designed especially for women with limited incomes, immigrant moms-to-be, and pregnant teens—because these groups are often the least likely to receive consistent care during pregnancy. The Teddy Bear Den has been housed in the lower level of Calvary Cathedral since their opening in 1996. https://givebutter.com/4th-annual-beer-bourbon-beef See less

Sermon Snippet (5/31/26)

Choose creation.

But remember it is hard work.

The real nature of the person or thing you recognize may or may not be what you see or hear or assume 🤔

“And God saw that it was good” in the English translation. In Hebrew the statement is “God saw good”. When God created humankind he said very good 😌 The difference is subtle and important.

Our core nature is good because that is how God created us. It is true we stumble in being good.

How so? Well, how do you assume the intent of people you know or do not know each and every day? Do you assume good or ill? 🤷🏻‍♀️

To the person who cuts you off in or honks at you in traffic are you going to choose expletives? Or are you going to give a quick prayer that they get to where they are going safely or that what they are worried about, distracting them in their driving is cleared?

Choose to believe God creates good and that it is not past tense. See what blessings you observe in life.

God gave us brains for the reason he expects us to use them 🤯

Think about your actions in this world in a different way. When you die and go to heaven, do you want to be asked why did you let them in or do you want to answer to why did you keep them out 🧐

God is first, others are second and I am third. 👣 Follow in the way of love, be an Apostle.

Use things. Love people. Keep it straight.

Why wear red this Sunday? Because we'll be celebrating Pentecost, from the Latin for "fifty." Fifty days after Jesus' resurrection, the Holy Spirit descended on Jesus' followers in wind and flames, empowering them for their own public ministries. It is often called the birthday of the church. Join us Sunday and consider your own ministry in service to God and neighbor!

Sermon Snippet (17May26)

Lions are curious animals.

The female lions do all of the hunting. They will be downwind waiting. Then the male lion drives them towards the female who the scared animals will run toward.

Peter’s warning today is not to be fearful 😧 of the enemy you see, you need to be aware of those waiting to ambush you.

Be wise, be aware, be faithful ✝️.

The real issue is not the big sins or temptations, it’s the small ones. A big one, don’t murder? Well most of us are good with not doing that. It’s the little things to be careful with 👌

But what about gluttony (overindulgence of anything)…what do you do too much of?

What about coveting (I.e. jealousy-wanting what others have achieved)…what things do you see and think oh if I only had that life would be perfect.

God doesn’t want us to be scared and the Holy Spirit is what gives us our ahah 🤔 moments to which we need to be aware. When that happens -

God gave us brains for the reason he expects us to use them 🤯

Think about your actions in this world in a different way. When you die and go to heaven, do you want to be asked why did you let them in or do you want to answer to why did you keep them out 🧐
