🎨💙 CALL FOR ARTIST: Dream Out Loud 💙🎨

Some of the best neighborhood projects start the same way:

Someone has an idea. Someone shares a passion. Someone says, "What if?"

And before long, a dream becomes a project, a project becomes a partnership, and a partnership becomes something that benefits the whole community.

Whittier Residents Association has never been built by one person. It has always been shaped by neighbors willing to share their talents, creativity, and vision.

So we're asking:

🎨 Are you an artist?
📸 A photographer?
🖌 A painter?
🧵 A maker?
🎭 A creative thinker?
💡 Someone with an idea you've never shared?

Dream out loud.

Show us what inspires you.
Show us what you'd love to create.
Show us what Whittier, Sioux Falls, community, connection, belonging, or neighborhood pride means to you.

Not every idea becomes a project, and every project has always started with an idea.

We're looking for artists, creatives, dreamers, and neighbors who want to help shape the future of our community through creativity and collaboration.

Recent conversations have highlighted opportunities for public art, community-driven projects, and creative placemaking throughout Sioux Falls.

Drop your ideas, artwork, concepts, or aspirations below, or send us a message.

Let's see what happens when neighbors dream out loud together.

💙 A Friendly Reminder About Neighborhood Code Related Concerns 💙

From time to time, neighbors reach out to the Whittier Residents Association regarding property maintenance, code enforcement, or other neighborhood concerns.

We want to clarify our role.

The Whittier Residents Association is not an H.O.A. and does not enforce city codes, ordinances, or property standards.

Those responsibilities belong to the City of Sioux Falls and its respective departments.

Whenever possible, we encourage neighbors to start with kindness and conversation.

Many concerns can be resolved by simply talking with one another, sharing information, and approaching situations with understanding and respect.

That said, there are times when concerns require additional assistance or formal review.

In those situations, we encourage neighbors to contact the City of Sioux Falls directly through the appropriate department.

If you're unsure where to start or need help navigating the process, we're happy to help point you in the right direction and connect you with available resources.

Our goal is not to police our neighbors.

Our goal is to help neighbors know, support, and work with one another while building a stronger, safer, and more connected community.

Thank you for helping make Whittier a place where people look out for each other. 🤝

We gained 100+ new neighbors.

💙 Welcome to the Whittier Residents Association 💙

Whether you live here, work here, play here, or pray here—you belong here.

WRA is an apolitical and non-denominational neighborhood group focused on creating a stronger, safer, and more connected Whittier through community, collaboration, and shared effort.

Our motto says it best:

“The WRA invites neighbors to create a stronger, safer, and more connected community. Together, we address local issues, organize events, and empower residents to improve their neighborhood’s quality of life and foster pride in where we live.”

What does that mean in practice?

It means:

🤝 Knowing your neighbors
🌱 Taking pride in where we live
🎪 Creating meaningful events and gatherings
🧹 Showing up when something needs to be done
💡 Sharing ideas, resources, and opportunities
💙 Building the kind of village people are searching to belong to

A quick expectation-setting:

This is a positive, community-focused group. We welcome different backgrounds, perspectives, and lived experiences, and we also believe strong communities require mutual respect and shared responsibility.

We follow the principle often called the “tolerance paradox”

A welcoming community can only remain welcoming if persistent hostility, cruelty, criticalness without solution, or destructive behavior are not allowed to dominate the space or group.

In short:

Kindness matters here.
Constructive engagement matters here.
Neighbors matter here.

You do not need to be perfect to belong.
You do not need to agree on everything.
You simply need to care enough to contribute positively to the neighborhood we all share.

We are glad you are here. 🏡

Whittier welcomes you.
