Some of you have asked about our ministry work in Nepal. While the situation is devastating in the country, we praise the Lord that Luke Society ministry operations have not been directly impacted. Here is a brief summary from ministry director Dr. Kapil Mishra who lives in Birtamod on the extreme east side of Nepal:
"On the 26th of August 2026, a massive glacier collapse occurred on the glacial lake, and the lake burst with an enormous flood down the course, swiping many clusters of villages and markets that have settled nearby the river banks from many centuries. As the massive flow of water was so swift that without a warning and unknown of the fact of danger, everything turned to a sea which was not seen like that ever before. It was early morning and no one was aware of this tragedy to inform the people in the high-risk settlements.
Many thousands of lives are missing and only the parts of the dead bodies are being recovered from the river banks. No one exactly knows the total loss of lives and property as it covers the total length of 168 kilometers, affecting the five remote districts in the Himalayas and down to the plains of Chitwan district.
Other threats are still on standby: The Mantha cyclone is on its way and the tectonic plates in the Himalayas, including Nepal, are going to erupt causing a massive earthquake.
Jesus advised us to be on our guard and pray. This is the only solution for us. May the peace of God remain with us all."
As the climate continues to warm, scientists warn that the frequency of disasters like the floods in Nepal will increase.
