Wishing everyone a Happy Earth Day! 🌍️ 🌎️ 🌏️

Earth Day was established on April 22nd, 1970, and the tradition has continued every year on its anniversary.

This year, the theme is "Our Power, Our Planet". From the organization's website, this is to reflect "a fundamental truth: environmental progress doesn’t depend on any single administration or election. It’s sustained by daily actions of communities, educators, workers, and families protecting where they live and work." (https://www.earthday.org/earth-day-2026/ )

Locally, we see this as a celebration of how important it is to work together within our community to create a cleaner, greener, and more equitable Sioux Falls for years to come!

Building Sustainable Connections is excited to announce we are hiring for a new Executive Director!

We are excited to announce our search for an Executive Director for Building Sustainable Connections! This opportunity is excellent for someone with ties to the Sioux Falls business community who wants to help celebrate the sustainable actions of local organizations, organize networking events, and work to grow the organization. If you or someone you know live in the greater Sioux Falls, SD, area and are able to commit 10-15 hours per month during normal working hours, we'd love to talk about how you see yourself within our organization!

Meet the mascots behind the Building Sustainable Connections team! The past few years, Riggs and Rory have motivated our team to keep going through lack of sleep and an overload of spreadsheets and databases. This year, they're joined by some new encouraging furry and feathered friends! Introducing: Zappa, Salem, Rose, Daisy, Boris, and Ghost! They're the driving forces behind our Board members today and always. Give them an encouraging "cluck", "meow", or "woof" to keep up the good work!

Thanks to generous donations, Building Sustainable Connections will be partnering with (Beverly Ann Miller Foundation), , , and Archaeology Lab in 2026! Our Sustainable Improvements Grant program offers micro-grants of up to $300 to help organizations advance their sustainability goals. We are always ecstatic to see organizations realize their sustainability goals!

When we say "Every Dollar Counts," we mean it! Our Sustainable Improvements Grants are funded entirely by a generous donation from , and the Grants Program was started using funds from a grant provided by the . Every dollar not earmarked for the is used to help us bring more programming, education, and benefit to our local community - including through incredible partnerships that lead to long-term sustainability wins!

Building Sustainable Connections is proud to announce that this year, we were able to distribute $1,200 in funds through our Sustainable Improvements Grant program! These funds will be used to assist four separate organizations with the development and implementation of projects that advance their sustainability goals. They also focus on improving water quality and reducing pollution, waste diversion, and community involvement in the Sioux Falls area!
