Better South Dakota is proud to open the application for our Counseling for Kids Grant, a $10,000 award supporting counseling programs at educational institutions in the state.

Priority will be given to K-12 institutions in South Dakota who hope to strengthen their counseling program needs when addressing mental health barriers for their students. One recipient will be selected through an application process led by the Better South Dakota Board.

The application is now open and will close on July 17th. The chosen recipient will be announced on August 1st, with funds available to support their school immediately in the fall.

Schools interested in applying can learn more and submit their application at www.bettersd.org/counselingforkidsgrant.

Today, Better South Dakota is proud to recognize a few outstanding students as recipients of the Better South Dakota Scholarship. Originally created to award four $500 scholarships, our board was deeply moved by the vulnerability and maturity displayed throughout this year’s applications. Because of the overwhelming quality of applicants, we made the decision to instead award 5 students.

The application asked high school seniors planning to attend college or university to reflect on topics including the biggest mental health challenges students face today, personal hardships and stressful experiences during high school, and realistic ways schools can better support student mental health.

🏌️‍♂️ 2026 Gone Golfing for Mental Health

On Saturday, May 2, 2026, Better South Dakota hosted our 4th annual charity golf tournament in honor of Emmanuel Christopher, raising awareness for mental health and su***de prevention across South Dakota.
