I’ve been avoiding this post for a while now, dreading the reality of what needs to be said. After six years of serving the Sioux Falls community, It Takes a Village will be pausing its services indefinitely. I’m deeply saddened to have reached this conclusion, as it has been an incredible privilege to grow this organization and work alongside non-profit partners in service of those in need. However, due to personal reasons, my family has relocated out of the country and will be unable to continue this work.

While our organization was small, our impact was meaningful. The organizations we helped support continue to run dry of essential hygiene items due to the growing need. The economic challenges our community faces have the greatest impact on the most vulnerable populations. Additionally, these hardships place mounting pressure on non-profits to expand their services with fewer resources to do so. As we head into the coldest months of the year, it is essential that our community rise to the challenge to help those less fortunate than ourselves.

Thank you to everyone who supported this work and helped me learn and grow along the way. Thank you to the Sutton Leadership Institute for inspiring me to get engaged. Thank you to EmBe for their sponsorship and endless mentorship. And most importantly, thank you to all of the donors, volunteers, friends, and family who answered my calls for help and showed up with enthusiasm. You made my little dream into a big reality, and I will forever be indebted.

We love supporting the Teddy Bear Den 🧸

For the past six years, It Takes a Village has shown up for our moms in the most incredible ways—and this weekend they did it again with a generous donation of postpartum and hygiene kits that will directly support the women we serve at the Teddy Bear Den.

Their village of volunteers continues to inspire us with their compassion, dedication, and unwavering support. We are in awe of all they do and are so thankful to be part of their circle of care.

What is Women’s Day of Service?

WHO WE ARE

Women’s Day of Service is an annual event for women to join together in service to other women. We believe celebrating the incredible women in the Sioux Falls community starts with showing up to support them.

THE NEED

To support women without access to basic hygiene products, we are building hygiene kits to help them stay fresh and feel their best. To support women in those first postpartum months and beyond, we are building kits that provide moms with helpful essentials for themselves and their little ones.
