As we look ahead, the Sioux 52 Mentoring Initiative will be sunsetted, and the mentor interest form will be disabled on August 1, 2026.

While this chapter is coming to a close, the Helpline Center remains committed to promoting mentoring and volunteerism through Volunteer Connections.

Mentoring Together

At Terry Redlin, Cleveland, and Anne Sullivan elementary schools, too many students are waiting for a mentor. Mentoring Together is on a mission to change that.

Who We Are: A collaborative initiative between the Helpline Center, Teammates, LSS, and the Sioux Falls School District to increase mentoring at three Sioux Falls elementary schools.
What: Mentors are supportive adults who meet with their mentee one-on-one to play games, make crafts, and be a listening ear.
Where: Anne Sullivan, Cleveland, and Terry Redlin elementary schools
When: Meet with your mentee weekly for about 40 minutes during lunch, recess, or after school.

Literacy Allies

The Sioux Falls School District is seeking caring adults to serve as Literacy Allies, helping kindergarten and first-grade students strengthen foundational reading skills.

Volunteers will work with small groups of students using a structured, research-based literacy framework and receive comprehensive training and ongoing support from district literacy staff.

Weekly Sessions: All Literacy Allies will commit to one hour every other week during the 2026-27 school year working with students inside our schools.

Individuals: Each individual will be paired with others to serve a small group of students and will be expected to commit to one hour every other week (including commute time).
Team of Allies: A team of six Literacy Allies can partner and commit to cover three hours per week, two twenty-minute sessions with five minutes between sessions.

New Mentoring Opportunity: MWI Health – Pathways to Healing & Resilience Program

Sioux 52 is excited to promote a new mentoring opportunity through our partner, MWI Health.
They are seeking compassionate mentors to support youth ages 15–19 who are navigating challenging circumstances, including involvement in gun-related offenses.

About the Opportunity:
Mentors will facilitate small group sessions (5–10 participants), helping create a safe, supportive space focused on growth, accountability, and healing.

Time Commitment:
One session every three weeks
3:30–5:30 PM
MWI Health – 317 Main St., Downtown Sioux Falls

Program Approach:
This work is grounded in a strengths-based, trauma-informed framework, emphasizing connection, trust, and resilience.

Who We’re Looking For:
Individuals who are compassionate, consistent, and committed to positive youth development. Those with lived experience are strongly encouraged to apply, as authentic connection is a key part of this work.
