"On October 5th The Kiwanis Club of Sioux Falls presented Scholarships to two students in the Early Childhood Program at Southeast Technical College thanks to the donations to the Kiwanis club by Tait & Jenn Lacey family and the Sandy and Mark McClung family."

"Club President Natasha Letcher along with Past President Austin Klett presented the check to Stephen Williamson the Director of the Foundation at STC. Joined by Amanda Schuette the Foundation Accountant and Operations Coordinator at STC."

We had an amazing and emotional meeting today at Kiwanis as Leigh Longley from the Longley Foundation told us her story. The foundation was started after Leigh's son committed su***de back in 2020 at the age of 22 years. In 2025 South Dakota had 214 su***des which put us at the 5th leading state in the nation for su***des. Su***de is also the 10th leading cause of death.

Leigh did a great job addressing her story and I loved her South African accent. She is an amazing woman and I admire her strength.

Yesterday at Kiwanis our own Nettie Myers gave an informative presentation on Nellie Willhite who was South Dakota's first woman pilot and one of the earliest deaf aviators to earn a commercial pilot's license. Nellie's flight training began in 1927 and her first solo flight was in 1928. The Minnehaha County Historical Society is having a marker installed in Sioux Falls to commemorate this pioneer woman.

At today's meeting we were proud to finally be able to present the 2025 Kiwanians of the Year Award to Bill and Arlyce Daugherty. Together they have supported Kiwanis for many years with Bill being LT. Governor and Arlyce producing "The Kiwanigram" which was an amazing newsletter. Bill provided a lot of guidance to me years ago when I first joined Kiwanis and it was very appreciated.

We had Royalty today at Kiwanis as Camryn from O'Gorman not only turned 18 today but is part of O'Gorman's homecoming royalty. Happy Birthday!

We had our second phase of funding distributions today at Kiwanis. We were able to listen to some amazing groups tell us how they go about helping children in our community.

John Quello awarded the funds and organizations receiving donations today were The Foster Network, The Gathering Well, Interlakes Community Action Partnership (ICAP), Kairos University, Promising Futures Fund, The Teddy Bear Den and Uniquely Yours. All of them add value to our community providing much needed help the youth in our area.

An amazing day today at Kiwanis as we got to listen to 6 amazing students. Each did an outstanding job talking about their past, high school experiences as well as future plans and goals.

We had Calli with Wahington High School, Camryn with O'Gorman High School, Desiree from Roosevelt High School, Addison With Sioux Falls Lutheran High School, Jessica with Lincoln High School and Nathan with Sioux Falls Christian High School. We wish them well with their futures.
