Latham Park

Latham Park Latham Park is an escape from our busy lives. We invite you to take a walk through our gardens and experience the relaxation that you can only get here.

Parks grounds comprised a total of just over .94 acres includes a prairie style farm home on grounds. Under the terms of Clara's will, the property reverted to a trust, now managed by Security National Bank of Sioux City. The Trustee was charged with the perpetual maintenance of the house and grounds for the use of, and enjoyment by, the general public. The grounds, with their appurtenant decorati

ve structures, are the site of frequent weddings, picnics, church services, reunions and photo shoots. But most often, the Park simply provides a setting for individuals to enjoy its quiet beauty.

Coming to your town soon…

The monarch butterfly migration continues to march north, with sightings reaching Iowa and Nebraska in recent days.

Our first photos of monarchs came in on April 15 from both states. Last year, Iowa's first photo came in on April 21, while Nebraska's was on May 19. In 2024, both states had their first photos submitted on April 30.

In 2023, we had an earlier sighting in Nebraska, one of only two years from the past two decades with an earlier report than April 15 in the Cornhusker State.

When you see a monarch this spring, don't forget to report it to Journey North!

Here we go…

MW024 was detected in Oklahoma on Friday! She's the second radio-tagged monarch to reach Oklahoma, following ROS032 (a male) that reached Oklahoma on March 25 but hasn’t been detected since then.

MW024 was last detected on March 30 near Abilene, Texas, and traveled 176 miles with no detections. If you look at the right graphic on today's post, you'll notice that she was last detected in a wind farm.

We originally radio-tagged MW024 on September 27, 2025, in Lawrence, Kansas. Since then, she made it down to the overwintering sites in central Mexico and is now journeying back north.

There have also been some directional movements over the past couple days at the overwintering sanctuaries in Mexico, including monarchs ALB004 and ALB007 (both females tagged at the Albarranes colony on February 20) and LPM097 (a female released at Long Point in Ontario on September 29, 2025).

It'll be interesting to see whether there will continue to be more directional movement! It's not too late to download the Project Monarch Science app and follow along with the spring migration - the app is available to download for free on your mobile device's app store.
