On this day in 1938, the U.S. passed the Fair Labor Standards Act—establishing the minimum wage, banning child labor, and guaranteeing overtime pay. Union organizing made that possible. And today, it’s union power that keeps these gains from being rolled back.

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, a day that marks the end of slavery in the United States and honors the resilience, culture, and contributions of Black Americans. This day is a powerful reminder of the ongoing journey toward freedom, equality, and justice for all. Let us reflect on the past, celebrate progress, and recommit ourselves to building a future rooted in unity and equity. Happy Juneteenth!

When we say UBC apprenticeships are a pathway to the middle class, we mean it. Union apprenticeships are the only training program that’s earn-while-you-learn and completely debt-free—run by and for working people. No student loans. No guesswork. Just the chance to learn a trade, earn a real paycheck, and build a future. If you’re ready to start a career instead of chasing one, we’ll show you how. https://www.carpenters.org/training-center/

Longtime member and Business Agent for #948 has passed away. Iron Mike Gill was one of kind who helped many members including myself achieve a better career through this Union. There are many many stories behind this man from a large family that will live on forever. He was a true Carpenter, Millwright, and Cement Finisher who lived and breathed Union. I personally am forever grateful for all he did for me and our Union, leading by example. Famous quote from Mike I’ll never forget “you just keep doing what you’re doing boy and you’ll be alright!” I’m alright Mike. Rest in peace. Heaven will enjoy your company.❤️🙏🏻

View Michael Gill's obituary, send flowers, find service dates, and sign the guestbook.
