Siouxland Humane Society Open admission full-service shelter finding forever homes for 100% of the adoptable pets A world in which animals are not abused or neglected.
(865)

A community where every pet is cared for by responsible and loving people. That is our hope for the future. Until then, the Siouxland Humane Society works each and every day to help all types of animals through our many programs and services. Here are some highlights! Through our adoption/surrender program we provide shelter, food and veterinary care to nearly 3000 pets each year. We find forever

homes for 100% of the adoptable pets left in our care. Our adoption program has reasonable adoption fees that include preventative vaccinations, deworming, microchipping and a free veterinary visit. The Siouxland Humane Society works cooperatively with law enforcement to bring justice for all animals. We assist law enforcement with investigation and prosecution of abuse and neglect cases. We also engage in selected advocacy activities through legislative and judicial processes. We promote an appreciation of the human-animal bond through education and outreach programs to schools, youth and senior groups and civic organizations. We regularly visit many nursing homes and residential facilities and we educate thousands of children every year about responsible pet care, the humane treatment of animals and stress the importance of spaying & neutering. Low income persons or those with a hardship can depend on us for help. Spay/Neuter assistance programs include SHS adopted pets, non-SHS adopted cats and Spay the Mom Cat for those with kittens. A program pays initial veterinary exam fees for pet owners with an injured pet, who cannot afford it. We provide shelter for animals whose family’s home has been destroyed by fire or those needing a safe haven while their family resides in a domestic violence shelter. The SHS provides pet food for those needing food for their pets. When people have hard times and need help, we are here! The Siouxland Humane Society offers competitively priced cremation services. Pet Loss Support is available to help young and old alike cope with the loss of a beloved pet. Pet microchipping and registration are available at a nominal fee at the Shelter. We also sell pet toys and supplies with proceeds helping to operate the Shelter. People unable to adopt can make a difference to pets in our care through the Sponsor a Pet Program. A donation to sponsor a pet helps harder to place pets find new homes. The Senior Pet Program matches hard to adopt loving pets to senior citizens. They may be older or simply overlooked. These pets are perfect for seniors who don’t want to deal with puppies or kittens. Breed Rescue moves animals both in and out of the Shelter. When space permits pets are brought into the Shelter. When needed we send them out to other shelters or rescue groups. Without the help of our volunteers we would be unable to meet our mission or operate the Shelter. Our “Best Friends” are a group of volunteers who donate their time and talent to our programs such as In Shelter Animal Care, Fundraising, Education, Advocacy, Pet Therapy, Foster Care and Outreach Programs. They all have one thing in common – a love of animals. This is a page for supporters of the Siouxland Humane Society. Excuse me… Myra has something to say.

Don't forget! Our adoption special is still going on. Dogs 6 months and older, weighing 30 pounds or more, are just $30.

Myra is hoping day number 114 is her lucky day!

If you've been thinking about adding a dog to your family, now is a great time to come meet some of our amazing pups waiting for their forever homes. Maybe today is the day one of them finally gets to go home.

A quick note: our internet outage means our card machine is currently down as well, so cash or check will be needed for adoptions until service is restored.

All adoption criteria still apply.

Double the guinea pigs, double the personality.

Meet Fred and Milo – two 4-year-old piggies looking for homes of their own. While these boys originally came in together, they’ve officially decided they’ve had enough of being roommates. Guinea pigs often do best in pairs… but Fred and Milo strongly disagree with that statement and would prefer separate living arrangements before another veggie-fueled argument breaks out. And who knows, maybe they just don’t like each other and would do alright with another guinea pig buddy.

Both boys are laid-back, sweet little companions who love fresh veggies, cozy naps, and quiet environments where they can relax and feel safe. Green peppers and lettuce are top-tier treats in their opinion, and they’re more than happy to accept snacks from anyone willing to spoil them.

If you’ve been thinking about adding a tiny potato-shaped best friend to your family, Fred or Milo might just be your perfect!

Lights. Camera. Adoption!

Bruce is out here looking like the main character in a dog movie and somehow, he’s here waiting for a home.

He is a 2-year-old Border Collie mix with movie-star looks and a past that’s still a bit of a mystery to us. What we do know is that he’s a sweet boy who does well with other dogs and is more than ready to find a place to call home.

Bruce has a curious spirit and a bit of a wandering streak, so a fenced yard would be the safest fit for this handsome guy. He’d love a family that understands adventurous dogs and is ready to give him the structure, maybe a job, patience, and love he deserves.

We are unsure how he does with kids or cats at this time.

One thing we are sure of? Bruce is the kind of dog people instantly notice. He’s got the fluffy coat, the intelligent Border Collie charm, and the kind of gentle expression that makes people stop at his kennel twice.

If you’ve been searching for a smart, adventurous dog with a whole lot of heart, Bruce may be exactly who you’ve been waiting for.

!!Updated Dog Adoption Special!!

Our kennels are FULL.

And after even more dogs came in over the weekend… we need your help now more than ever.

Starting today through the weekend, all dogs 6 months and older and 30lbs or more will have an adoption fee of just $30.

These dogs have been waiting. Some have watched countless people walk by their kennels without a second glance. Some are stressed, overwhelmed, and wondering when it’ll finally be their turn to leave the shelter behind.

This special is not because there is anything wrong with them. It’s because there are simply too many good dogs and not enough open kennels.

Big dogs. Goofy dogs. Couch potato dogs. Adventure dogs. Velcro dogs. Dogs who just want someone to finally choose them.
If you’ve been thinking about adopting, this is the time.

As always, all adoption criteria and approval processes remain the same to ensure the best match for both pets and people.

Come meet your new best friend. We promise kennels full of dogs hoping today is finally their day.

And if you can’t adopt, please share this post. Their families are out there, we just know it!

Meet Bella

Bella isn’t here to compete for attention. She would actually prefer if she didn’t have to.

This 8-year-old spayed girl is looking for a home where she can be the star of the show and the only pet in the home. She likes her peace, her space, and her people all to herself.

Bella is front declawed, a bigger girl with an even bigger personality, and loves playing little games of peekaboo and hide-and-seek. She’s independent, knows what she likes, and fully expects to be spoiled accordingly.

We are not sure how she would do with kiddos, but we do know she ‘s ready for someone who appreciates a cat with confidence, personality, and a whole lot of love to give.

Meet Teddy Bear

Yes, we are aware Teddy Bear is currently missing approximately 87% of his fluff.

His luxurious Aussie hair? Reduced. Significantly. But Teddy doesn’t seem bothered in the slightest. The confidence is still fully intact.

But for anyone worried – yes, his coat will grow back. Aussie’s have a double coat, and while shaving them usually isn’t recommended unless medically necessary, Teddy Bear is still the exact same sweet boy underneath the surprise haircut. And honestly, he is rocking it like nothing ever happened.

This handsome 6-year-old neutered Australian Shepherd is sweet, gentle, and has such a soft way about him. In playgroup, he does great with other dogs and loves having friends to hang around with. His play style is honestly pretty adorable too – he has the sweetest way of balancing gentle play with little bursts of joy when a game of tag starts.

Teddy Bear has clearly got a playful side, but he also has that calmer, mature energy people are always searching for. He’s not nonstop chaos. He’s just a genuinely good boy who enjoys companionship, fun, and being around people who make him feel safe.

Now, he does need a home without cats or chickens. But if you’re looking for a dog who already knows how to be both a friend and a companion, he may be exactly what you’ve been missing.

The fluff may be temporarily missing… but the sweetness definitely isn’t. And after 6 years, we think Teddy Bear deserves a forever home that finally sticks.

We did include his photo at intake so you can see the full deluxe Teddy Bear edition in his full majestic Aussie glory.
