Bridge shows up on time for every monthly appointment to have tattoos removed from his arms, legs, and neck. He is preparing to become a drug counselor through a two-year program at Oxnard College.

“When I chose the profession, I thought my tattoos would give me more credibility with my clients. And my mentor said, ‘You’ve already achieved something. You don’t want to go to their level. You want them to rise to your level.’ So I wanted the tattoos removed.”

Bridge is attending community college through the Rising Scholars program — offered to individuals impacted by the justice system — and has made the Dean’s List two years in a row.

“Because I’ve been so impacted by drugs in my life, I want to help other people,” Bridge explains. Eventually he would like to open his own sobriety houses. “I had a really bad experience and I don’t want anyone who really wants to change to go through that.”

“I hope more people can help you here — volunteering, donating. This is a wonderful place.”

P.S. Shout out to Dr. Jan Schilling for her work.
